Hi, Everyone! Charlie's fine, but we picked up a new civvie last night, Silky. Charlie and our original civvie are fine but poor Silky's coming unglued. At the shelter she was a huge love bug but if anyone goes anywhere near her she growls and hisses. We are obviously keeping her separate from the other cats but if anyone has any suggestions I'd love to hear them.

I brought a ten month old Bengal into our home over a month ago, and my three yr old Bengal still howls and screeches at her. Feliway spray seems to help a little, now I'm trying the Sentry calming collars. Someone suggested it was a good idea to put the collars on all the cats because then they all give off that same pheromone. Haven't tried it yet, but I'm getting another collar tonight so I can start.

Thanks, everybody. I did pick up a spray at Petsmart, something-miracle. I sprayed it in the bedroom she's hiding in & we'll see what it does!

when I first brought Forrest, my civvie cat into the house, I would rub him along his neck where the scent glands are and then go and rub Bubba in the same place to exchange their scents to each other. It really helped too. Within 3 days they were good friends. Also, I was told to put Forrest in a crate in the middle of the room that Bubba hangs in the most and let them just stare and sniff at each other. Between the two things, they both adjusted fast!

The hissing and spitting tends to be just a 'shot across the bows' while they work out the pecking order. Hopefully it will subside.

(Great avatar pic, BTW.)

Thank you! that's my son, Greg--about 10 years ago! When I took the picture, I labeled it "Gwegowy wuvs Chawwie".

Is the product called Nature's Miracle Calming spray? Has it been working yet?

While I have used Rescue Remedy and it does work the addition of a pheromone collar will help Silky even more. You can get them at Pet Food stores and better versions may be available from your vet. With the collar being around the neck it will always be right there under the nose and for the next 30 days will soothe frayed nerves. They last for 30 days and that should be enough time for Silky to become comfortable in his new environment.

Well, Charlie has accepted her and vice versa. Moustache is still swatting at her occasionally... but she's basically moved in and now I need to convert her to eating canned instead of dry. Wish me luck, she's going to be stubborn, I think.

@SuePea - Sending positive easy-food-switch vibes your way ... :cat:
Thanks, I think she's going to be a tough nut to crack. She wouldn't eat the first day and a half until I went out and got some 9 Lives kibble. It really irked me to be buying that crap! And of course, it's pure poison to Charlie, so I have to make sure that they get fed separately. AAARGH

SuePea...at least she's eating something. That's the most important thing...though a pain in the rear as to dealing with the hassle of separating bowls. I hear you on that. I had to do it too. :bighug:

Hey LouEllen! Just an FYI: Celestial Seasons has a Tension Tamer tea, I use along with herbal supplements called Valerian root. Works wonders. Everyone that works with me is on both. Ha-ha!!

Hey Tucker&Me....that has to be the calmest place in the world to work. I'm off to "drug" my boss right now with Valerian root slipped into some Tension Tamer Tea. Any chance I'll get the rest of the day off? ;)

Both Valerian and St John's Wort may be helpful with humans under stress, per the German pharmacopia.

Hehehe. No chance of "slipping" the Valerian in on anyone, the crew nicknamed them "stinker pills".
Awful. But very effective.
The tea can be camouflaged!
I've done it.

You guys are not gonna believe this, but the day after I posted this, she suddenly decided on her own to switch to the canned food! I had put Charlie and Moustache's dinner out and next thing I know she's licking out the leftovers! Never looked back. She was only on the junk for a couple days!
