I have 2 cats with only one having diabetes. I have been making my own cat food following the recipe from catinfo.org. The good news is my diabetic cat is off the insulin as a result of making my own cat food. If she eats any of the canned food her BG goes up. I've tried several different low carb canned food with the same results. I guess she likes a good homemade meal. My other cat is still eating canned food and I'm trying to get her to eat the homemade diet. She can't tolerate any fish including the fish oil capsules. Does anyone know what I can substitute in place of the fish oil to provide essential fatty acids?

Hi. I'm sorry that I am not responding with an answer to your question. I just wanted to ask you what symptoms your cat has if she gets fish oil?

I found this: "Some cats may also be allergic to fish and unable to get their essential oils through fish oils. If this is the case, try giving your cat krill oil."

My cat projectile vomits every single time food contains fish about 1-2 hours after eating. I'm feeding her FF classics and discovered the beef flavor has fish in it. It took me a few times to realize what was causing it. The homemade food, I tried only a couple drops of the fish oil and same thing. Its pretty consistent. I will have to look into the cat krill oil. I never heard of it. Thanks for the suggestion!

Thank you for the info. I'm always hesitate to try something new these days but know I need to try something here that works for both cats.
