Thanks for the direction to Dr. Lisa's "making cat food" page. It is an interesting article, but I am interested in cooked homemade food rather than raw and even though my to cats aren't in CRF, I am sure their kidneys are less than perfect due to their ages and Jake previously having active diabetes. Dr. Lisa states that her receipe is not a good one for CRF/CRD kitties so I am assuming there is higher phosphorus in her recipe. Does any one know where I can find cooked homemade cat food recipes that are lower in phosphorus and fat?

Thanks,
Judy, Jake, & Boomer

When I first found Dr. Lisa's site, I was reading up on homemade cat food and found a peer reviewed veterinary study of cats on a diet of cooked chicken. Not sure what the variables were, but the cats did not do well on cooked. In fact, I think all of them died. I haven't followed up on the article, and it was a couple of years ago, but it does indicate to proceed with caution if you go this route.

If I remember right, this study was from like the 30's or 40's and was basically raw chicken with nothing added vs. cooked chicken with nothing added. So not a complete diet. The study proved that some nutritional value was lost or broken down during the cooking process, and yes, many of the cats on the cooked chicken diet did die. Any good modern diet developed for cooked foods would make up for the nutritional loss from cooking though.

The above site was recommended to me by Justin (Gator) and the site owner will help you develop a diet based off of your cat's nutritional needs and will provide a nutrient analysis for it as well. I believe under the recipe section you can download H's recipe Justin had custom formulated, and his diet was cooked I believe.
