I am looking to make homemade cat food for my two older male cats. Jake has been in remission from diabetes for about eight months now and has recurrent diarrhea from a suspected food allergy of unknown origin after ruling out most other suspected culprits. Boomer does not have any health issues that I am aware of. Since both are older, almost 19 and 12 respectively, I am looking for receipes that are low in phosphorus in addition to obviously being grain free and lower fat. Does anyone have any receipes that would match that criteria?

Thanks,
Judy, Jake, & Boomer

Making food is not simple but Dr Lisa's page really helps. WHen I first joined FDMB, there was a lady named Rosemary who was the resident expert on nutrition and she always encouraged people to really learn about nutrition before making their own food. There is a great page called Maxs House where you'll find even more nutrition info.

Hi there,

If you go to the main page for Feline Diabetes, you will find links to diet on the right hand side. Dr. Lisa's info is there and there is another link to nutrition. Both of them give information on raw diets and recipes.

As someone said, it is not simple. And, you really need to determine if your cats will eat raw before you start the raw diet adventure. My guys will eat it (already checked that out). I have everything ready for my first batch this weekend.

Will let you know how it goes, and how well my furries like it.

Enjoy reading all the information that is out there on feeding raw!
