Woohoo and welcome to the Vampire club...
No at 112 you don't want to shoot...wait about 30 mins and recheck to make sure she is raising....112 is a non-diabetic number..We usually tell newbies not to shoot if below 200

If this is a number 12 hours after her last shot, you definitely do not want to shoot. This is a nearly normal number - especially if it is coming that long after a shot. Until (and if) she moves above 200, I would hold off. If you can get some testing in today, you will be able to see how she is doing. If you feed her and her number goes down, that is a very good sign that her pancreas is still working.
BTW, congrats on your first home test! Looks like it came just in time. If you had given insulin at this number, you might be facing a hypo today.

ok i just tested her again ( feel so bad since it took 3 pokes this time to get blood)
and is 187 now and she did eat, 1/3 can of the m/d about 1 hour 15 min ago
yes it was 12hrs after she last ate/got her 1u shot
(btw my sister gave her 1/2 can of W/D before her PM shot, i now since label the other w/d can to avoid confusion)

W/D is very high in carbs. If she was at 112 twelve hours after eating that, then it's very possible she needs a dose reduction. I'm not a prozinc user though, so I'll leave the dose advice to those more knowledgeable with that insulin.

I tend to be cautious with new diabetics. If food is in the mix, I would wait. It would be nice to take a couple more tests. I think I would wait until tonight at her regular shot time and give her .5 units. If she was at 112 12 hours after the shot, it was too much insulin.
The only other option would be to give .5 now, but that will probably throw off your schedule as she would need insulin again in about twelve hours.
If you can get her on a lower carb food, there is a chance she won't need insulin for long.

If you didn't give insulin there is no reason to worry...that the number is down after eating that much means that her pancreas is working, which is a very good thing. If you get rid of all the high carb food, she might not need insulin any longer, or at the very least, a much smaller dose.

forgot in all my excitement to say ty to Hope's parent, since i almost did inject her as my vet's office had just instructed me to do so just minutes before,

Sue that is very good to hear and fingers crossed.
i just now got her to eat only can food (took some days since she loves the crunchy food and doesn't take well to changes in her food texture) now onto getting her to eat some of the healthier commercial can foods :smile:

It is good news that the number is coming down without insulin. It means she has a pancreas that is helping out. I would not shoot unless you have a number over 200, and then probably less than .5
Lower carb food (in the 8-10% range) may keep her down in those non diabetic numbers.
