Hi!

I have home tested my kitty about 5-6 times over the last week for the first time.

Two questions:

1) My kitty's ear is a bit red/looking a little dark like a bruise - is that normal in the beginning until they get used to it? I feel bad... I guess that is normal in the beginning.

2) Tested kitty last night before dinner (330) then 3 hours after dinner (285). Is that a good sign the level went down after dinner?

I am having a friend who is a vet tech come over in the next few days to teach me how to use the insulin to get that started, but I have been getting Nacho in the swing of home testing. He growls a little sometimes but it seeming to love the treats before and after! :)
 
Try and get into a routine with Nacho. I was all over the place with our first diabetic cat Nigel, looking for the best light, where he would be most comfy, where the other cats would not distract either of us. We finally got settled with a big towel on the dining room table. Noah feels safe in his basket, the light is good etc. so I'll do test and shot and he won't squirm or flinch for an hour at a time. You might think this will backfire; Nacho will put 2 and 2 together and run into the basement but it's something you have to do. Every day that goes by you'll get better at it, his ears will look better, you'll have steadier hands, he won't resent you for poking him. Above all you have to show confidence that this is what needs to be done and you're not going to make it hurt. It might not seem possible right now but some of us have been doing this for years with migraines, one arm in a cast, a screaming baby. Done your first curve yet? Super-Happy-Fun-Time!!!

Thanks!!! I did not do my first curve yet - I am going to try that this weekend to test him every few hours to get more practice and see how the numbers go throughout the day. Thanks!!! love your kitty very fluffy!

To minimize bruising of the ear you should apply pressure for about n30 seconds to the ear where you pierced it.
BG going down is a good sign since it may mean that the pancreas is still working abet not like normal.

Thank you!! I am hoping once I begin the lantus there is a possibility for remission in Nacho's future :) !! Positive thoughts!!
