Holy Cow - it looked like a crime scene

Good Morning All, Hope everyone is finished with breakfast :smile:

My alarm went off this morning, which is actually very unusual for us... most mornings we're up at least 30 minutes early (normally closer to an hour or more before the alarm). I walked into the living room and WOW - vomit everywhere! I believe it started on the back of the sofa, all down the arm, spots on the laptop on the table next to the sofa, on the top of the cushion, on the front of the cushion, on the bottom of sofa, two big spots on the floor right in front of the sofa, spots on the floor leading to the kitchen and then more in the kitchen as well. What the heck?

I believe it was Zeus, he's a bit mopey this morning, but he ate all of his breakfast. His BG was high 346 at AMPS. He did not eat all of his +3 meal. Are we still clearing the bounce from the 14th when he was really low, then high on the 15th, good numbers on the 16th, and high today?

I had been "blaming" Smokey for the furball vomits, but now I'm wondering if it hasn't been Zeus right along (one every two or three weeks or so for a while now. Mentioned it to the vet who only gave me a hairball remedy, but didn't seem concerned). There was a food/furball vomit on the 13th when his AMBG was 50/61. Another yesterday. Those both had a thick layer of food with the furball. Today it was thin but definitely food colored. Shouldn't I be concerned with all this vomit?

I'm feeding strictly fancy feast classics right now - I was trying to mix in Merrick Before Grain and Evo 95%, but he didn't seem to care for it, so it's been several days of just the FF. Could that be it?

wow. It does sound like CSI. Guess you get to be the investigator.

It could be the fancy feast doesn't agree with him? Unless you've been on it for a very long time. If it's been a long time then it probably isn't the food.
Think back of when you started the FF. Has this been a theme?
I would at least pay attention to which flavor brought all this on and not use it for now.
Perhaps try one of the friskies off the list or another one since he didnt like the other two you have.

Has he been shedding a lot? If so, brush and help him get rid of the excess hair so he's not swallowing it.
I need to do that with Shadow but she has never liked being brushed. She'll take my arm off. cat(2)_steam
She has looked like a dandruff commercial since March ( but she had surgery -teeth so I thought it was from that)

Once a week sounds normal for hairballs especially if you have a cat that bathes itself regularly.
I would say an OCD (obsessive compulsive) would have one every other day especially in the warmer months...

I haven't looked up the hair ball stuff to see if it contains anything we shouldn't have but it does help with hairballs.
If your cat won't take it freely you'll have to put it on your finger and swipe it on his palate where he has to swallow it.

Sudden onset of vomiting when that hasn't been happening indicates something amiss. Pancreatitis can do that, as well as inflammatory bowel disease, hairballs, and more. It also plays havoc with the glucose control, so watch out and get nadir tests - sudden lows/hypos become more likely with vomiting.

Start logging your observations, especially which cat and what foods had been eaten. It may help you or the vet determine the cause.

Well, sort of, now that you mention it. I think it's been happening since about the time that Zeus was diagnosed and we cut out the dry food. He was eating Friskies dry & canned, then we switched to purina DM dry and canned, then I went to just canned but he didn't like it, so I started mixing in the FF, and now just FF. I was also trying to switch Smokey over, and I attributed the hairballs to her because of less fat in the food (she always ate friskies dry and canned, but would only lick the gravy and leave the rest). Smokey has always been a big groomer, almost OCD about it. Zeus on the other hand... he's my "lick and a promise to do it later" kind of guy, LOL. I really don't see him groom very much at all (never really have)... must be doing it later when I'm not around. He tolerates the brush, but only on his terms and for his time limit, which isn't long ;-) I'll have to try more often to see if it helps. Oh, and I didn't use the hairball treatment for Zeus - I tried it once on Smokey, but she didn't like it so I switched to vaseline instead. I haven't used any vaseline on Zeus because I really thought it was Smokey, as she was the more likely culprit. And actually she passed at least one.... ok this is gross (sorry), but part of it got stuck in her fur and the other part didn't come out so I had to intervene with a paper towel, Ahhhh what we do for our furbabies, LOL.
