Hi all! We adopted a companion cat, for our other cat, about 6 months ago after having a baby. We accidentally adopted a diabetic cat. (Will definitely take an adopted pet for full blood work next adoption!) When we brought him home, he was quite tubby. He started slowly losing weight, which we thought was healthy, and after a few months we noticed he was way too skinny. New baby and sleep deprivation made us not notice soon enough! Off to the vet and came home with a diagnosis of diabetes. It took a few days for the insulin to come in. In the meantime he stopped eating and completely crashed. We spent a week syringe feeding him every two hours with fluid therapy. He recovered and is now on Prozinc. .75 units 2x daily. Doing okay, not great.

Hi and welcome. So sorry for the diagnosis, but you've come to the right place. There are so many wonderful people here who are very knowledgable in diabetes and all things feline. You may want to post on the ProZinc forum with any dosing questions you have. @Sue and Oliver (GA) & @Rachel will be glad to help you!

Hi!! First off, don't blame yourself. New baby and sleep deprivation is a lot! We've all been there. Even without a new baby, it took me quite a while to see what was going on when my Gypsy was diagnosed. We just don't expect problems, so they're hard to spot.

You've definitely come to the right place as Sharon said. We'd love to have you come over to the ProZinc forum so we can help out. We can help you find a good dose that will hopefully get your kitty (is he Hitchens?) to feeling better. The dose you mentioned is a good place to start. We're not supposed to give much advice in this particular forum, so please post over in the ProZinc forum when you have a chance and we'll get some info from you and help however we can!
