Higher +6 than preshot?

On the advice of this board we have just switched from a dose of 1 unit SID to 0.5 BID (effective 5-10). We also just got a new, more reliable glucometer. I am concerned that today's AMPS glucose was 345 and then his +6 was 360. I know I should give it some time for the new BID dosing to start working but I just don't understand why the +6 number would be Higher?? His shed should be full; we didn't change the dose just the administration of it?

I'm sure others will say something similar, but those 2 numbers are probably within the range of meter error. And try not to fixate on one weird number. We've all had "What the....?!?" BGs from time to time. It happens. When Donovan's BG went up when it should have gone down - I'd scold him for stealing cookies . In reality I don't know what caused it.

Could also be a very late nadir.

Welcome to LL. Give the dose a little more time to settle.
Oh, you are the kitty who travels.
Things will be fine in no time.

so nice to see a pic of the traveling kitty.

do what D says, give this time. And for the first 2-3 days, shooting BID, don't get caught up in the numbers. Just collect it and don't worry.

And the fact is there is very little difference between 345 and 360, so what this tells me, is that 6 hours after shot, he is staying at the same level. You aren't getting huge swings up or down, so this is good, seriously, it is.

Not to worry--The thing here on lantus is patience & consistancy-
That is just one number, one day, not a reflection of the whole experience--
Also, Look At The Whole Cat...Is Sugar acting better? More energy? Eatiung well? Playing more?
These things also count. Let's see what happens tonite..
You are on the right path!

Actually, I'm betting his shed isn't full. Lantus duration is 12 - 16 hours. Even though you were giving more insulin, by shooting only once a day, there wasn't sufficient duration for the shed to be adequately established.

I agree with MJ - the difference between 345 and 360 is negligible. It's well within the normal variance (approx. 10 - 20%) of the meter.
