High today, fine yesterday?

Arnold had his shot at 8am. I checked him at 1pm and he was 276 I think it was. It was 373 the first time so I rechecked just in case b/c I was surprised it was that high. Yesterday, he hit his lowest that I recorded (121) about 7 hrs after his shot. What's going on today? Is this normal for newly dx cats as we get things adjusted? He did eat more this morning than he did yesterday so I'm assuming it's that. He only ate maybe 1/2 his food yesterday and today it's gone. :-D Do you adjust for things like that or give shots early or just stay on schedule? I picked out a new vet's office today. My friend reccomended them and they had some good info on their website about feline diabetes so I called and they were super nice (and they don't carry Vetsulin) and helped me w/ some questions over the phone. We'll go through the weekend and see how things are w/ spot checks on him and then maybe get his papers faxed over and make an appt for him.
 
Keep things steady for a while - he's still getting used to the insulin. Continue on your regular shot schedule unless he goes really low when you test his BG.

At shot time, his blood sugar should be over 200 to be safe to shoot. At mid-cycle times, like +6 or +7, if he goes below 50, give him a snack and check here at FDMB - may need to consider reducing the dose a little.

Thank you. I just retested and he's 316 so a lot higher than he was this time yesterday. How confusing! No woner there's a whole group of people making this board work. :-D This is definitely something I'm glad I found people to help me with.
 
The food can make quite a difference (do you already know that if he isn't eating well you should lower the dose?), and also sometimes they just get different numbers in different cycles.

Until you have more data, it's generally recommended to stick with the 12/12 schedule (unless as Phoebe said he is below your 200 "no-shoot" level, then you would delay the shot and retest every 30 minutes or 1 hour or so until he reaches 200 and it is safe to shoot).

Sometimes their bodies react to getting nice pretty #s like yesterday's 121 with a cycle or two of high #s following that. I don't have enough background or data to make a guess whether or not that is factor in today's #s, but it's a common pattern when their bodies aren't used to good #s, they protest for a bit til they relearn that those are good #s.
 
Thanks. His eating seems wonky to me, but I like to eat, lol. This morning he didn't all his food again, but maybe he's just not as hungry as what I give him. He was 337 this morning before I fed him and gave him his shot. So I'll spot check a few times today and we'll probably end up at the vet this next week to talk w/ them about it all.
