Hi:
I'm back again today. I started Sampson on his bp medication and he is acting really slow and sleepy all evening. He ate pretty good and I know that he went blind on Friday but he hasn't acted this sleepy and sad since it happened. Does adjusting to the bp medication cause these symptoms. Gave him only the 1/4 pill as prescribed. He just doesn't have any perk at all today. Had to cancel his vision specialist appt until Thursday, he wouldn't come out from under the bed this morning and I had to get to work today. Hopefully I will have better luck Thursday morning. He has had it with going to the vets office, Friday and Monday.

Any experience you have had with bp meds would be helpful. He seems to moving a little slower today as well but he is 17 years old.

Thanks,

The meds could be causing it, which med is he on? High blood pressure itself can cause lethargy. I am sorry I have probably missed prior posts but did they check his kidney values and thyroid values?

I know hes probably sick of going to the vets but you may need to take him in more often at first to make sure the dose of meds is correct and working.

I hope he feels better soon.

Yes his kidney value was a little high at 38 on Monday, last check. Thyroid was normal. He is suffering from IBD (severe) and is a transient diabetic. Yesterday and this a.m. were his worst days that I have ever seen. I don't know if he is going blinder or if it is some other issue going on. I hate to see him like this. He didn't want to eat this morning (he usually has a great appetite). His interaction with me was not the same. He usually talks to me and follows me around, not at all yesterday night or this a.m. I am in knots trying to figure out what to do. I took him off of the high blood pressure meds as I have a specialist for vision looking at him tomorrow (God willing). He is really weak last night and this morning so I just couldn't give him another bp pill. (only a 1/4 of a pill but he seems so much worse). I don't know if he has just had enough, or it's the blindness or if it's something worse like cancer. His sugar is up since June 16th. He was at 108 but we gave him a shot of predinsone (short acting). His bg was 270 last night when I checked and it has been in the 200's since the pred. My poor little man, what to do? What to watch out for? I just don't know at this point. I don't know if he can even stand another vet appointment. Do your kittys tell you when they have had enough. This is my 1st experience with this. How is going to adapt to being blind now? Help with some advice.

Thanks,

Gustav hasn't had any reaction to the Norvac amlodopine blood pressure medicin at all. He was also prescribed 1/4 of tablet a day, and it wasn't enough to lower his blood pressure, when we followed up measured he had still high bp. So he was prescribed Fortekor blood pressure medicin too, 1/2 a day. We haven't been yet to the vet to follow up measure his blood pressure after starting with that. But we will. He has however had no reactions or side effects to the meds.
