I posted on the Lantus forum... but am concerned, so I'm posting here too.

Revson has been high since yesterday using the Relion meter (I am out of FS strips).
He is on 2U Lantus.

I have not checked for ketones because I have not caught him peeing.
He may have gotten into some civvie dry food today.

Seems quiet, was sleeping on the couch, but flicking tail.
Up now drinking water & purring.

Oh, and we're traveling to visit my mom in OH.

Question: Would sub-q fluids help to flush his system?
He got some last weekend but they are absorbed.
I have an IV bag (about 1 month old), but have not been able to stick him (chicken -me!)

I am not quite understand how you are dosing; Lantus needs consistency, but your ss shows missed shots and jumping between 0u and 1.75 and .5 and 2u. You need to stick to less frequent dose changes because of the shed.

If your cat got into some high carb dry foods, you will just have to wait it out; I don't think it's a good idea to use fluids for that reason.

If he is dehydrated, fluids may be helpful.

The most helpful thing you can do though, is read the Lantus forum stickies to learn how Lantus works ... and to share that information with your vet who doesn't appear to understand either.

Most importantly - it is a long acting insulin with carryover. We call it 'the shed'. This results in doseage changes which may take 3-5 days to stabilize.
