Hey All,

I’m not sure why I got 251 just now at the +7 test. I’m sure the insulin went in and it was not a fur shot. 100% positive as I watched the needle come out of the skin... her numbers prior had been pretty consistent. Nothing changed. No nausea or diet changes. Could she be bouncing and why?? Of course I panicked and rechecked her in 30 minutes, but I had already given her “snack treat” so number was then 265

Thanks!

I think I double posted and don’t know how to delete, sorry @Deb & Wink :banghead:

Okay, are there any reasons or anything to look for or it’s just a thing that happens with diabetes. Good days and bad days. I guess my mind goes to os the insulin bad? Should I open another pen? And there was a bit of a blood bath again so I also thought maybe too much blood can throw the numbers off...? Oey vey how the mind wonders :banghead::banghead::banghead:

Sometimes, those high numbers at mid-cycle happen, and there is no reason why.
Stress can throw the numbers off. So, if Minnie was stressed before you took the test, that could cause the higher number. It's not only "vet stress" that can raise the BG levels.

Yes, if the test strip is "flooded", blood smeared all over the test strip, instead of letting the test strip "sip up" the blood, that can throw off the BG test numbers.

Or, Minnie could have dropped low earlier than that +7, and she was bouncing back up.

Ok, when did you open the lantus insulin pen? Most people can use those pens to the last drop, if kept properly refrigerated.

Doubt that is the reason. That the lantus insulin pen is no good any more.

she seemed pretty relaxed lounging in this old armchair in my garage ha! Unless knowing I’m about to test her is stressing her out now...

the strip was a bit flooded both times so maybe that was it I guess I’ll know if I get an under 300 number at the pmps.

I agree don’t think it’s the pen. I ordered the 5-pack from Mark in March and this is the second pen I opened. The insulin looks clear and they should all be fine for at least 6 months. I was told each pen only starts to “deteriorate” once you open it.

I’m breathing into a brown paper bag right now and will update the spreadsheet later. I have a mama possum and her babies that have decided to sleep in my garage. The cats are used to possums and they all interact nicely. It’s a relaxing activity for me to watch the baby possums at night learning to clump the trees. I am guilty of leaving cheap kibbles out for them after everyone is inside so cats don’t eat dry food, and last night I got to watch the babies eating. So cute!!!! Here’s a pic of mama a few weeks back. Look at those faces :bighug:
