Hi everyone! I was contemplating switching Pepper to a different insulin, because I haven't seen a difference in her numbers when I raised her dose back in May, after she was really Ill. But then I noticed tonight by doing a before bed test (I have to be up at 5am), that all these high numbers may actually be possible bouncing. She is 265 at +3.5. She will not reach full nadir for another 4 hours. Can you please tell me what you think? Thanks a bunch.
 
You don't really have any mid cycle numbers. It's impossible to tell if it's a bounce. Can you get more readings and maybe a curve? Looks like you might need an increase in dose but hard to say without much data.

I'm glad Pepper is feeling better. :) Please try to get some mid cycle numbers or even a curve (full or partial) this weekend so we can see what her current dosing is doing to her BG. Without that data it's impossible to give good advice.
 
I can do a curve this evening. But I have a question.... everyone says feed her if she's hungry. But if I feed her Everytime she is hungry then her numbers are food related on the curve.
 
With a curve, you want to feed as you always do. You want to see what the numbers do throughout a normal day, with the normal food on board. A curve gives us good info about what kitty does all day. Does she go too high, does she go too low, does she stay in fairly flat numbers, etc. If you do that without normal food on board, it won't give us good info to ascertain what happens normally. Then our advice will be based on numbers that aren't what she normally has during the day.

The only time you want the numbers to not be food influenced is at preshot since you're giving insulin then.

Does that make sense? Still getting some coffee in so I'm not completely awake. :)
 
I'm glad you decided to post here. Get us some mid-cycle numbers, and we can help! I saw that your DH is not willing to test unless he sees signs of hypo, so I know you will not be able to get week day mid-cycle tests, but hopefully using the weekends and evenings, you can get enough data to know what is going on.
 
The nadir usually occurs between +4 & +7. Every cat is different so part of the challenge is figuring out when the low actually occurs. Any tests you can get within that time frame will be useful information.

If there is any chance you could do a curve on a weekend day, that would be the quickest way for you to get a feel for when nadir occurs. Then, you would have an idea of the time range during which you want to try to do your mid-cycle tests. If the curve is not an option, you will just have to grab tests at different times until you can figure it out. For example, do a +4 one night, +5 the next, +6 the next and so on. When Mia was on Prozinc, her nadir was almost always at +6, but I saw it happen anywhere from +4 to +8.
