I'm introducing myself again, as I didn't realize I had originally joined in 2013. I got reintroduced via FB (Paulette Benjamin). I'm encouraged by so many positive reports and helpful input by many of you. My Shamus has been on Lantus for 2 years. He's doing pretty well, but I wish to learn how to do the "curve" which I'm totally clueless about. All I know is that it will hopefully help me to get him into remission. Looking forward to interacting.

Hi Paulette and Shamus. Welcome back!

There's all sorts of information over in the 'Feline Health' forum including what a curve is and how to do it.
Are you already testing at home?

HUGS and welcome again,

A glucose curve is testing the blood glucose every 2 hours from pre-shot test to pre-shot test.

HUGS and welcome again,

Hi. Yes, i've been testing for 2 years. I looked at Ivana's spread sheet on this board and I almost passed out. I had never seen one before. I am totally lost as to what to do or where to start

Hi Lette ( or is that your cat's name?) The SS aren't that hard to understand, if I could do it you can too. I was overwhelmed at first too. I am going to tag @BJM as she has a great explanation for how to read it and use it. We are all here to help and ask away. If you need help getting the Spread Sheet (SS) set up, ask for help and someone with help you, sorry sadly it is not me. Welcome again.

Understanding the spreadsheet/grid:

The colored headings at the top are the ranges of glucose values. They are color-coded to clue you in as to meaning.

Each day is 1 row. Each column stores different data for the day.

From left to right, you enter
the Date in the first column
the AMPS (morning, pre-shot, test) in the 2nd column
the Units given (turquoise column)

Then, there are 11 columns labeled +1 through +11
If you test at +5 (5 hours after the shot), you enter the test number in the +5 column
If you test at +7 (7 hours after the shot), you enter the test number in the +7 column
and so on.

Halfway across the page is the column for PMPS (evening, pre-shot, test)
To the right is another turquoise column for Units given at the evening shot.

There is second set of columns labeled +1 through +11
If you snag a before bed test at +3, you enter the test number in the +3 column.

We separate day and night numbers like that because many cats go lower at night.

The nadir is the lowest glucose between shots. There is a general period when it will happen which is specific to the insulin being used and testing then helps make sure your cat doesn't go too low.

It is merely a grid for storing the info; no math required.

I can set up the SS for you. I'll send you a private message to get the info I need to set it up. Check your inbox.
