I wasn't comfortable giving her a tiny little dose at +7, although it looks like maybe I should have? I gave a skinny 1.2u (just below the mark) since 1.2u worked really well for a slightly higher red yesterday.

I know what you mean about being concerned at giving a little micro dose boost. Steph has been doing that with Chuck and it's helped. When your kitty is as volatile as ours are it's hard to know how they'll react. It would be a lot easier if their response to insulin was more consistent and "calmer".

With Teasel I'm happy just seeing more blues and yellows on his SS. He's too chaotic in his responses for me to do anything different in dosing routine.
 
I wouldn't do the boost with Hermione either. She seems to require tiny doses and bounces sometimes even with those. Adding more insulin, even a little, could complicate the picture. Possibly that o.6 was too little for the low pmps, but it worked too well a couple cycles ago. Slow and steady is a good plan.
 
I'm glad you two agree with my caution, that means I'm learning! I have to remind myself that the reds are just blips in the data and not to put Hermione in danger by pushing things.

Nutter is doing ok, thanks for asking! It's likely that he had a stroke instead of idiopathic vestibular disease, he still has a severe head tilt and balance issues as well as some other less obvious neurological signs that should have improved by now. But he's happy and at the beginning of the month his bloodwork came back normal for a cat of his age (slightly increased kidney values, but he's 16 so to be expected and watched for changes). I'm hoping with a little extra TLC he'll be with us for a few more years!

I went out for a friends' surprise birthday party last night so didn't fire up my computer to record Hermione's results. Here they are!

12/14: 410 @ PMPS +6
12/15: 432 for AMPS, 1.2u given
323 @ +4
170 for PMPS! - which was actually at +13 because I got distracted cleaning house and wasn't keeping track of time
181 after 40min stall
180 after 1hr stall, .7u given

I'm really excited to see her back in blues!
 
I didn't test for nadir because Hermione was watching Thursday Night Football with me. But I guess I should have...

I spent the day making shelters for feral cats out of rubbermaid tubs. A friend cares for a small colony of 6 TNR cats and some heartless person smashed her nice wooden shelter. We're in the middle of a nasty cold snap with freezing rain and snow forecast for tonight so it was important they have somewhere warm and dry. She'll rebuild the nice wooden one, but these were quick, inexpensive and will get donated to another colony carer after she doesn't need them. The shelter was behind her garage and is on her property. Sometimes people just suck. :mad:

But today Hermione's numbers don't!

I know! It's hard to deal with our kitties bouncing everywhere, but having others who are going through the exact same thing to sympathize, advise and support makes it's not so bad :bighug:

Kitties and TV - sounds ideal to me! Teasel dove into green mid-cycle. I'm home monitoring instead of being at a Christmas pot luck. Oh well ...
 
Sorry for not updating, we had an ice storm that caused a car to run into a pole and knock out power to my block. I have a generator but it only runs the really important things like my fridge, furnace and a few lights. It's all fixed now, fortunately!

Hermione is running high again, too. Maybe she didn't like the lack of tv and computer either :(

Ugh! I hate ice storms and they're dangerous. It seems that Hermione was upset by it too. As we keep saying to each other, Kimi, you'll get her back. :)
 
It really could be the power. My kitties get super stressed if the power goes out...it just feels and sounds different I guess and upsets them.

Thankful you have a generator so you didn't freeze!
 
Thanks gang! I live in the country so our power isn't as reliable as it could be. Everyone around me has emergency generators ;)

This is SO true! Last time Mr P visited and left again I felt so dejected, like I was somehow letting Hermione down. This time I just shrug, remind myself she's still feeling MUCH better than she did just six months ago and gradually increase her insulin until she gets back into blues again :)

123 for AMPS! Tested twice, 126 with FS and 123 with AT strip.

I gave her 1/2 can of Sheba Chicken pate, I'll retest in two hours. I swear Hermione waits until I'm not watching her to take a big drop! Especially like today when she is so low at PS that she makes me paranoid she was in hypo territory while I was out enjoying myself :( Her bowl of Young Again was barely nibbled on - no more than normal - and she's her normal happy self so I know she was ok while I was away. But it still makes me worry...
 
181 2hrs after half her meal, I gave her .7u

At the beginning of the month she did almost the exact same thing, I gave her .6u and she bounced right back up into red. I gave a tiny bump to .7u to see if she'd do better this time. Fingers crossed and extra alarms set for nadir!

I should have given her some food at AMPS, but I thought she would increase not surf there. I gave her .7u since .6u wasn't enough last time she was in mid-blues. Extra alarms set for nadir.

I woke up to my alarm at nadir this morning, but Hermione was sleeping on my chest so I went back to sleep. I want to collect the data, but I also like my sleep and it's hard to motivate myself when Hermione is blinking sleepily at me six inches from my face and purring like a diesel truck ;)

12/25 PMPS 324, 1.3u given to be cautious since I wasn't home
12/26 AMPS 421, 1.4u given
PMPS 137! I fed her 1/2 her meal and waited 2 hrs
347 after 2hrs, 1.4u given
361 @ +8 - bouncy bouncy
 
444 for AMPS, 1.4u given - except it was a partial fur shot.

Hermione got a bag of Primal Freeze-dried Raw from a friend (who only feeds raw and teases me when I say I don't have time to feed all my critters raw) and so far she loves it. It seems to be even lower in carbs than the 9 lives and Friskies she's been eating, so hopefully that'll make up a little for the fur shot.
 
Yep I think raw should be good...those fur shots happen! We've all done it. You'll get her back. :)

Those of us with rubber kitties have learned not to take the wonky numbers as a personal insult ... :cool:
 
Yep, she's hanging in the reds lately...any chance of a nadir or even a curve soon? With those occasional low preshots, I am wondering if she is going low during the day and bouncing back up.

Now I feel like an idiot. I've been busy with family stuff, and since Hermione has been high and flat but acting normal I have been slacking on her mid-cycle tests. She slept with me last night like normal, and was cuddling with me when I woke up so I figured we were in for another day in purple/red. But my little girl loves her surprises! I tested 3 times, 81 on FS, 72 & 70 on AT. Her bowl of Young Again was barely nibbled on, just her normal amount of grazing.

I gave her 1/2 her meal and will retest in 2hrs. I was going to wait and see if she's going up or down, but this is already pushing her AM shot time way past my bed time. Being a nocturnal 2nd shift worker has it's adventures :p

.7u hasn't been enough the last few times she's been in the high 100s, so I'm trying a tiny increase. I'll also do a curve on it to see how well it works - and I won't let Hermione distract me with snuggles this time!
