Well. The Lantus arrived this week, and I'm off work the next 3 days. This evening Joey had his first insulin shot. Now the tough part....to stay awake for a few more hours to watch him like a hawk and work on making a spreadsheet (I love spreadsheets!).

I have the Relion Prime meter. I admit, I haven't been checking BS very regularly before the insulin. On 3/20/17 I did check at 1705 before his evening Fancy Feast and got a result of 265. (His BS when diagnosed was 368). Today, before food and insulin, at 1641 he was 226. Fed and insulin (1 unit) at 1726. (All times EST). Thinking that I'll check the BS in about an hour (+4 hours from insulin....still learning all your terminology here!).

So, no questions or concerns yet. Just watching him and all seems well for now. Any comments or advice is always welcomed. Just kinda wanted to type something out as a journal for myself.

And, I gotta brag a bit...Joey Waddles is a champ for BS checks! Always my chunky trooper :)

I'm still figuring out the whole signature thing... and trying to post my whole post but keeping getting a message it's spam-like :-(

Joey was diagnosed 3/6/17.

Instructions given from the vet for 1 unit Lantus twice daily.

Since 3/10/17 Joey has been on wet food, mostly Fancy Feast and some Friskies (thank you so much for the amazing food list here!!), twice daily with some dry kibble out just in case (he's always been a dry food grazer). The dry food is Nature's Variety Instinct Grain-Free Dry Cat Food - Chicken Meal Formula. I've researched and have found carb value around 12%, so while I'm working on getting a sample of Young Again Zero, this is probably an improvement from his Purina weight control dry kibble he was eating... He hasn't been eating much of the new dry kibble at all except the past 2 days he's been eating his Fancy Feast can within an hour (which is faster than he had been) and since he was diagnosed and we switched to wet food, I am seeing my old, happy, ornery Joey again. I can tell just from the food change alone he's feeling a bit better!

Finally got it all to post! Yay!

Links to help you out :). I think you get the spam message if you try to post too quickly one after the other but someone else new was having the same issue. Hopefully, it will figure out you guys are new members, not new spammers :cat:

Grats on first shot and tests! We love spreadsheets too!

Thank you SOOOO much for the spreadsheet info!! I've been searching for it since posting. And I think the issue with the spam-like message was maybe too many dates? Or I said what pharmacy I purchased the insulin from (Mark's Marine from Cananda). I tried to do all of my "comments" in one long post at first. Oh well, it's here! Thanks again!
