Hepatic Lipidosis---Precursor to FD?

I have been corresponding with someone whose vet suggests that the cat's fatty liver DX this summer was the precursor to the current feline diabetes DX. I do not know the particulars of the cat's fatty liver condition except that it took 6 weeks of treatment.

I have not heard of fatty liver leading to feline diabetes. It does not appear that steroids were involved in the treatment of the fatty liver. Comments? Observations?

Doubt it.......the diabetes might have been starting, cat stopped eating and FL started. I've had 3 FL cats and none of them came down with FD. Usual thought is that a cat stops eating and then they develop FL but I've always felt that something starts with the liver which causes the cat to stop eating. A lot of cats with URI's may not eat well because they cannot smell but they don't develop FL.

The only thing that might connect them IMHO is that a cat that stops eating and gets FL may have pancreatitis, which could lead to FD.. but a more direct link? no I dont think so. It would be reaching for straws to say the HL damaged all the organs, leading to FD, although not provable, could be possible.

i think the more common case is what i saw with cleo:

diabetes started, cat started eating frantically to get energy but untreated diabetes made that not work, cat gave up trying and stopped eating, cat got fatty liver, cat saw vet & got insulin, blood glucose levels got better and cat started eating again, fatty liver resolved...
