Hi all,
Sorry for our long time away from the board.
Have been really busy and then lost internet connection for awhile and very hard to post from a cell phone.
First I want to say I hope all of you in the NE anywhere near where hurricane Sandy came in are all ok, humans and kitties.
I have still been helping grandma and then the cat she took in after ear surgery, Lovebug had a set back on Thursday and was not able to stand and was rolling like before ear tumor was removed a few months ago. He is still at the vet, he has been examined under sedation and there isn't any sign of the tumor deeper in ear canal, she thinks his eardrum is ruptured and when we put mite drops in it went in too deep. He is receiving antibiotics and is standing, eating, no head tilting. He is due to be able to come home tomorrow, I have been very upset about him, have become very attached.
Here's an overview of Henry's progress:
We used the last of the ProZinc Oct 16, he was doing well, getting down in blues most of the time at nadir.
Started the BCP compunded PZI on Oct. 17. He does seem to be lower in the mornings a little, running in lower to mid 300's most days, however he doesn't drop as fast, and is usually in the mid to lower 200's at +6 and then back to lower/mid 300's at night. However, I reduced his dose quite a bit to begin with since I had no idea what action this insulin would have. He now is at about 2.4-2.5.U. I started him off at 1.75 and have raised gradually. Seems like when I go up just a little more he gets flatter. I don't know whether to raise or lower. He actually was down to mid 200's by +4 at 2U and one night a few days ago, he continued to drop all day and was at 117 at PMPS.
He seems to feel ok, plays, not peeing or drinking in excess and doesn't seem ravenous some days he only eats 2 cans of FF during the day and eats more in the evening, as usual his appetite is bigger at night and early morning.
I will just keep trying, tweaking dose as I go, maybe he just needs more time to adjust to this insulin.
Its damn aggravating when he was doing well on ProZinc. Last time I checked it didn't look like it was available again or if so in limited supply. If I can get some ProZinc I will probably switch him back, but for now we are doing the best we can on compounded PZI, and it may yet work with dosage adjustments and more time. He seems to take time to settle in to dose changes and anything new.
I was offline and ss is in sad shape, not sure when I will catch up, maybe I can go back and work on it a little each day until current, I have all his BG's in a written journal I keep.
