Very sad day today; my mom had one of her 16 year old cat PTS. We are so lucky to have such a kind, compassionate vet that has taken care of all our animals for years.
She came out to mom's house and mom held her while Coal had both injections. It was very peaceful. Coal couldn't walk for the last 2 weeks and while when first one leg started dragging and then the other from a herniated disk, she had enjoyed walking in her sling and watching the birds out the door and was bearing weight on her legs, the last 2 days she didn't want to get up to walk in the sling and was not going to her pee pee pad by scooting. She was still scooting around a little and was eating; mostly mom was handfeeding her and she had started wetting on herself more and dribbling.
She still was alert and not overly thin, mom just decided to let her go now, before she became worse. Little Coal didn't like to be be dirty and she couldn't do all the things she enjoyed like looking out the door and cuddling with her sister. Mom found both she and her littermate, Amber, when they were 2 days old, abandoned by their mom. We fed them with an eye dropper and wiped their bottoms to get them to potty until they were old enough to eat and potty on their own.
Amber had been avoiding Coal the last few days, today Coal licked her and she ran away scared. Right after Coal was PTS we let Amber back in the room and let her see Coal, she sniffed her and chin marked the box we had her in and Amber then immediately started acting better than she had in days.
We buried Coal in a shady place between 2 oaks in mom's backyard. Coal was a little black Manx and was a spitfire with a quirky little personality. Amber, her sister is a big Orinch kitty.
I will miss Coal very much, I helped raise her from 2 days old. She at peace now, gone to the light, whole and young again with her back legs working.
Thanks for letting me talk about a special girl on Henry's thread.
Sorry I still have not updated Henry's SS, too much going on and my sister and kids will be here tomorrow for a almost 2 weeks so I will not be raising Henry again until they leave. Henry had a pretty good day today other than the usual high AMPS
