What is the condition when the cat gets too much insulin and the liver reacts by spiking the BG? I know it starts with a "S". Please respond quickly if you can help--we have a vet appointment and I think Kitty is getting too much insulin--result in BIG spikes.

Thanks!

It is my understanding that Somogyi rebound doesn't have much scientific backing these days. However, if you suspect rebound type action, then the way to confirm it is to monitor bg levels throughout the day. Try to get +3, +6, +9 readings on a fairly consistent basis during the day. And at night when you can.

Is Kitty on PZI or ProZinc?

Looking at your updated spreadsheet, I see a high flat curve last night. That could indicate too much insulin, but not necessarily rebound. Rebound "usually" has highs and lows. Either way, you might consider reducing the dose, but as I said on PZI, you would want to test for ketones consistently as your kitty has recently had DKA. Also be sure she is eating and drinking.

Donna, I think that rebound is not seen often with Lantus because of the shed. We still think we see kitties who "could" be in rebound on PZI as it is a 12 hour insulin with little overlap. Never sure whether to call it liver training or rebound......
