I need help switching my recently diagnosed Skylar from fancy feast classics to Answers raw cat food. I have the food here but won't start until tomorrow as I want to monitor her really well (while I am awake). Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

The only thing you can do is go very slowly....Raw has a totally different texture and unless cats are started on it young, they sometimes have a lot of trouble figuring out it's really edible

Just start by feeding mostly FF with just a tiny amount of raw mixed in.....gradually increase the amount of raw while you decrease the Fancy Feast

Some cats take to it easily, but most you're just going to have to be patient with the transition

Thanks. How do i work the insulin dosage out? She currently is getting 1 can of fancy feast classics in the morning and 1 in the evening. After she eats I give her 2 units of vetsulin. I would think with the answers raw that there would not be a need for insulin, but I don't know and that wouldn't take place until she was completely switched over to the raw.

Yes, I do test her at home

the only thing you can do is keep testing.....If you've been feeding the FF "Classics", they're already low carb...unless Skylar is VERY carb sensitive, switching to raw probably isn't going to make a big difference in her blood glucose numbers

I know you think you're "technically challenged", but it will also really help us to help you if you start keeping track of her blood glucose numbers on the spreadsheet we all use.

Here are the Instructions for getting the FDMB spreadsheet but if your head starts to spin, feel free to send me a private message and I'll be happy to set it up for you. Just click on my name and choose "Start Conversation" to start a private message.

I'd need a little bit of information from you to get it going. It only takes about 30 seconds once I have it though so it's no problem if you want me to do it for you

Be sure to test before feeding and then give the shot after that. Some people get the timing mixed up. You might want to freeze some of the raw food so that stays fresh in case it takes a while to convert to the new food.
