Help with Ollie ... continued

To address your question regarding having a pet sitter give the shots, I have tried that in the past. I was using the vet technician who saw Ollie often in the office. However, Ollie is a big scaredy cat and he hides from strangers. I have cameras in the house and saw that she was trying to coax the cat out from hiding to give the shot but it was the WRONG cat! Toofer looks a lot like Ollie. Fortunately she was unable to succeed but that really scared me. I do envy those who are able to have the sitter do it but I have not gotten to that level of trust yet. We are in a new home, still meeting people, but my cats are not fans of new people! Something I hope to figure out because it would be nice to someday take a vacation!

On another note, I felt Ollie's reading of 419 after missing 2 shots wasn't too horrible. The readings since have been even better. Chugging along :cat:
 
Not too bad with 2 skipped doses of insulin, as you said.

Come on Ollie, let's see how low (nadir) this dose takes you.

Where in the world do you live? You could put some of that in your user profile.
 
Got in some random readings in the last couple days. Today his numbers were consistently lower. Continuing with same dose. Will keep an eye tonight. How do I know when a change in dose is warranted? Deb, should I stay in main forum?
 
Your choice on staying here in the Welcome & Main forum or switching to the Prozinc ISG.

I can't always be around, to help, so if you do go over to Prozinc ISG and don't get an answer in a few hours, please feel free to tag me or post in the Welcome & Main forum for help. More people here to see you and help most of the time.

For instance, I had to run a bunch of errands this afternoon. Plus, this coming weekend I have 3 cat sitting commitments and will not be around much to help. If you could stay in the Main forum, until Monday or Tuesday, that might be helpful to you.

Hi Rosemary! I don't know near as much as Deb, but I'll keep an eye out for you while she's busy with her cat sitting this weekend. Yay for lower numbers! Good job, Ollie! With ProZinc, any time you have a mid-cycle test that drops below 90 on a human meter, it's time to reduce dose by .25 of a unit. Ollie's not there yet, but with all those pretty blues, might be there soon! Fingers crossed!
 
Juls knows enough and she knows more than she thinks she does. She's doing really, really good for the short 2 months she has been here. Learning fast and sharing what she knows with lots of other people.

Thank you so much Juls! I'll make a note of that. My only question would be is it .25 of a U40 unit or a U100 unit?
Unfortunately Ollie continues to bounce around so we're not there yet. However one thing I've noticed in the past couple of days is less of an appetite. He used to bug me often for food. He's been much more content in the past 2 days. I work from home sometimes which is SO very helpful for monitoring. We'll keep at it!
 
She always uses U100 syringes to dose, and records the U100 dose on the SS. Second person I've seen here that records the doses that way.

So a 0.25U increase is a 0.25U increase using the U100 syringes which she always uses.
NOT the U40 syringe measurement.

p.s. I'm so far behind today, in catching up with alerts and unread posts. It's only going to be worse the rest of the weekend, as I have those 3 cat sitting "gigs" through Monday. ;) Oh boy, the situations I get myself into sometimes. :woot:

Oh boy Deb! Sounds like a crazy busy weekend! Don't worry ... we're okay! We've dosed Ollie at 7u for 9 days. This morning we shot 7.5u. The half unit on U100 is 0.2 U40 so I feel it's a good low amount. That brings us to an even 3u if it were on the U40. Based on all the mid-cycle testing we've done recently his numbers haven't dropped to a good range yet. I'll keep monitoring.
A year ago we were dosing as high as 11u (U100), then slowly came down until he hit remission in May'19.

We are still searching for a vet as I feel it's time to get him rechecked. I'm attempting further discussions with the last vet (who berated me for using U100 syringes) in hopes that we just got off to a rocky start! She had mentioned the U40s come in different needle sizes but my research only found one brand so far. I prefer to stick with the 31g / 8mm. Crossing my fingers she works with me on this!! :rolleyes:

With the lessening of Ollie's appetite, are you noticing a reduction in his signs and symptoms?

Less P/u (polyuria), less P/d (polydypsia), coat looking better? Other signs of improvement?

Do you check regularly for ketones? It's important.
More notes on the SS, Remarks column could be helpful.
