Help with low sugar! Dabey*********

Dabey has been off insulin for a week because he hasn't needed any. We were hoping he was in remission. He has been in the middle 100's. The problem is that for some reason his sugar will drop low and he's eating good and drinking. His hair is thinning out alot also. My vet says the hair problem could be from the diabetes, but does anyone have experience with any underlying conditions that could be causing his sugar to go on a decline?

I could see if he wasn't eating.

Thanks for any help

what do you mean by his blood sugar drops low? how low?

typically if they aren't getting insulin, lower blood sugar numbers are not a concern

Oh, great, thanks so much... I was afraid something was really wrong with him.... So use to his sugar being higher.... Maybe my prayers have been answered.......

sounds like they have been as far as the diabetes goes :-)

do you have any other kitties? if so, try getting a test on them. most of my non-diabetics run from the high 40's to mid 60's

i'm not sure about the hair loss though

Hair balding on one side...No chance of fleas... does have some allergys to pollen in spring, but the hair loss is just one side. very wierd......Seems like getting better now instead of worse...

My other cats tested 60-75 so all ok......

congrats on the low BGs! Have you changed foods recently? One of my cats (not a sugarkitty) loses hair on her ears everytime I switch foods. Thought it might be an allergy but it always seems to go away after a month or so on the new food.

Haven't changed foods, but this started happening when he switched to Lantus. His hair started to thin way out on one side....

Anyhow he is doing good now so hopefully since his sugar is good, maybe his hair will start improving...
