I just looked at the Lantus website and it looks like they have a prescription/coupon card ‘lantus saving’s card’ that may save you a few bucks if you qualify. It is on the top right hand portion of the home page.

Yep! It guarantees you only pay $25 a pen for up to 6 pens. I was even able to use it at my local Walmart.

The only thing you need to qualify for it is to have a prescription not covered by any insurance or program. Since most of our cats are uninsured, they all qualify! :thumbup

I think there is a form to fill out....
How nice that your cat has a human sounding name....
I don't think they are nice about giving the discounts if it's for a cat.....so pretend it's you or a child..... (without health insurance )

I'm sure I just read something about that recently here somewhere....

I wanted to sign up for that but did not figure they would honor it for a cat so I did not but maybe I should try...

I forgot to bring my Lantus Savings Card when I bought a pen and Walmart still gave me the discount when I brought back in the Savings Card and the receipt within 30 days of purchase. So, even if you've already purchased it, you might be able to get some money back.

I just bought a pen and used that Lantus discount. It worked! I only paid $25. The pharmacist was still running the bill up---tacking onto the price and adding needles, which I don't need of course. I put all of Martha's information in the little application. She is only 14, so the first time, it was rejected because you have to be 18. I must confess I changed the birth year, but that was all. All her information was entered correctly and she passed, and got the card. (Of course, nowhere on the form did it ask, "Are you a cat?")
Now I need to figure out how to use the pen. I'm afraid to open it to look for the little rubber top, because I'm not sure when the "countdown" begins to where I can no longer use it.
Is there a rubber cap? Is it very hard? Will it bend the needle when I insert it into the rubber?

You can take off the "cap" and you should see a little rubber stopper. This is where the syringe needle goes and you draw from it similarly as you would from a vial (although you don't have to hold it upside-down for it to work). The "countdown" starts once you've pierced the rubber stopper the first time, so you're fine. ;-)
