My cat has been diabetic for 2 weeks and he is on prozinc 1.5 units twice daily. When he first was diagnosed he was at 400 blood glucose. He went in Wednesday for a curve at the vet and was measuring 170-190 all day. But then last night his little back legs twitched a little bit so I took his blood and he was 90. So I waited for his feeding time and then took it again and it was 81, so I didn’t give insulin. This morning I measured after feeding him and it was 42(not sure if my meter was off) so I immediately measured two more times which were 93 and 100, so I didn’t give insulin again. My vet called me back this morning after all that and she told me to bring him back in Monday for another curve to see if it’s possible remission. My problem is, she told me to give him .75 units twice daily still until Monday even if his blood glucose is under 100 and to have karo syrup on hand. But I am extremely uncomfortable with that because I personally feel like that’s to low to give, and I don’t want to put him in any danger. Help me please!

Welcome to the FDMB. We all all new people to post first an introduction in the main/health forum where you will get set up with a signature and spreadsheet. This forum is for lantus, generic lantus and Levimir users. Are you using a human or pet meter? Either way he’s on too much insulin. She was right to reduce but the question is by how much. Have you been testing before every shot and again at least by mid cycle?

We tell new people not to give insulin if they are under 200. How would you feel about proceeding with a no shoot number and only shooting 0.75 if he's above 200?
