Help with high protein low carb wet food

I'm looking for help with Bellas food. She has always had dry whiskas freely available and used to get a whiskas pouch morning and night. She went off her food a while ago (just before she was diagnosed) so we started buying a variety of different wet food which she ate happily, shortly after she was diagnosed.
I am aware that diet can play a large part in keeping her healthy and that she should be eating wet food only with a protein count of 40 or more and a carb count of less than 10. I looked at the spreadsheet but couldn't find any of the varieties in pets at home or my local Tesco's
I will be hopefully reducing the dry food, but can anyone offer advice on what is the best wet cat food to feed?
I notice that there is no dietary information on the packaging so I'm lost as to what food to buy.
I dont think that Bella is much better she is still eating a lot and urinating a lot and is quite lethargic we are back at the vets on Saturday to check her blood.
The vet has said to not change anything at the moment until she is under control, this sounds sensible but as I'm buying her different types of wet food I think I should try and get her the best that I can.
What is the best to buy in the uk?
 
Hey there. Good going :) I currently feed sheba fine flakes poultry in jelly, whiskas +7 poultry in jelly and Felix as good as it looks in jelly (meaty and the mixed meat/fish) ones. She will eat butchers tins in jelly sometimes but can be a bit picky about those.

I did try a lot from the happy kitty company but she wouldn't eat them. On nom nom is one of those ones but you can buy a trial pack which is what I did.

Fish is once a week only tho as they can get addicted to it and it's not the best for them so I try not to go overboard with fish varieties.
 
Generally speaking any food in jelly is better than in gravy - there may be sugars in gravy so best avoided dor diabetics. There should be quite a choice on UK supermarket shelves and you can also buy online from sites such as Zooplus.

@Elizabeth and Bertie is our UK food expert and hopefully she will point you in the direction of some other suitable foods you might like to try.

And @Monica Lewis , what are you feeding Josie now?

Thanks for replying, I thought that whiskas was junk food for cats But I will get it and Sheba and Felix
I noticed on the spreadsheet that it was specific flavours of certain makes, so I was only looking for them.
Has anyone changed to a raw diet and noticed any difference?
I was looking at Alaska cat food and was considering it for the future
 
At the moment Bella is eating anything, she was very fussy and would hardly finish a pouch that is why when she started eating everything and begging for more we knew something was wrong, poor wee soul hasn't been herself for a while

yes it can be a bit tricky to find suitable food that kitty will also happily eat..
From my experience I can recommend you Sheba Fine Flakes in jelly which seem to be a popular choice due to higher meat content ( around 45% I think as opposed to Whiskas, Felix and other main brands which usually has only 4% meat derivatives..) and fairly low carb, plus there's a wide range of flavours available as well.
Sadly Sheba is not suitable for Josie anymore since diagnosed with pancreatitis, now she gets Tesco's Finest selection and a German brand called Ropocat Gold which we order through Happy Kitty Company. They both contain 100% meat only with no other fillers or added stuff and Josie is very very fond of both of them. Ropocat Chicken only has 1% carbs so I am particularly pleased with that one..
Sometimes we get her for variety Nature's Menu Country Hunter which has also 95% meat content.

At the bottom of my post you will find the link to the brilliant UK food list which you might find very useful when deciding which brand to go for as it has the carb contents already calculated making it very handy to compare.
You will probably go through a few different brands before settling for the winner approved by a happy Bella:cat:.
Yes do try to reduce the dry food gradually until she can completely come off of it if possible as it's not the best choice for diabetic kitties and can muddle up the blood sugar levels a lot due to the high carb content..

Yes, Whiskas (and Felix, which is very similar) are sort of "junk food" in a way but I'd bet are fed by the vast majority of UK cat owners because it is accessible (sold everywhere), affordable, and their cats will eat it. I fed all my cats Whiskas all their lives - very happily, thinking it was much better than dry - until I realised its incredibly low meat content. I really wanted something I could buy in the shops, not online, and I tried hard to switch my current civie to Nature's Menu but she just won't touch it. She ate Sainsburys Delicious for a while and went off it - I think they changed the formulation - but quite good quality (50% meat) if you want to give it a go. Also tried Hi-Life chicken which again she ate for a while but I think it upset her tummy - don't know why but guessed liver content.

Finally I tried some German brands from Zooplus which are far better quality, although more expensive of course. I'd still prefer not to rely on buying cat food online (had a minor panic recently when I nearly ran out!) but I've now got into a routine of ordering fortnightly so there is always plenty in the cupboard!

At the end of the day though it's what your cat will eat. I'd suggest trying a few different brands and keeping a small stock in the house so you never run out of a favourite in an emergency. And although any wet food is better than dry, it's good to keep a small amount of dry too in case you have a situation where BG is dropping too low and you need to raise it a bit... but that's another subject for another day.

Good choice to start with..:)
It’s called Tesco Premium. Not the cheapest but decent quality with actual shredded chicken/fish.

Just back from Tesco couldn't find Tesco finest (probably because it's called Tesco Premium ) but I did get 48 pouches of Sheba fine flakes in jelly for £12 so I'm happy and Bella has just eaten a pouch so she seems to like it as well xxx
