help with calculating food nutrients

I had looked up the charts (I think it was Janet & Binky's?) and found that the food I was going to try was not going to meet the nutritional values I wanted for Rudy. However, when I went to the food's website and tried to calculate something on my own, I came up with different values. I'm not sure if the chart is out of date or my math really stinks- but I could use someone smart to let me know ;-)

The table said phosphorus is 1.53, but I calculated .91?

Think the issue here is that the values shown for the food are a mix of minimum and maximum. To calculate appropriately you need minimum or maximum values.

Bearing in mind that the quoted value for moisture is a maximum of 78%, then the 0.91% is the minimum amount of phosphorus that the food contains. Given that the 0.2% as fed phosphorus level is also a minimum then that means there's even more 'play' in the calculations. For that reason, I'd be inclined to lean toward using the phosphorus level quoted on Tanya's Site as a guide.

OK. thanks! I was so confused as to where the numbers are coming from! lol So this food probably isn't the best for Rudy as I am trying to keep him lower phos :-( bummer
 
It's tricky trying to manage multiple conditions with differing dietary requirements, Karen. As I said in a thread earlier this week, in Saoirse's case it's game, set and match, pancreas. The right food for her is the one that she can eat consistently and which causes minimal or no discomfort. The only food I've found for Saoirse to help with the pancreatitis has a phosphorus level of 1.93% DMB, typical analysis; and that took nine months worth of food trials. Saoirse's phosphorus levels weren't too bad in June's labs and with a very limited amount of phosphorus binder added to one meal every other day thankfully they were at a very good level in her labs for August.

How is Rudy doing in himself at the moment? And how are you bearing up? :bighug:

He still isn't eating a whole lot. The zofran seems to help, but he is still losing weight :-( that totally stresses me out- begging him to eat. he is doing alright otherwise, still cleaning himself and still moving around the main floor to find the best sun spot to lay in ;-)
maybe i'll try the other food i have to see if he likes it. i guess 1.53 phos isn't terrible if the stubborn kitty will acutally EAT it!!!!!
