This will be my first glucometer and I would very much appreciate any recommendations and advice you can give me on buying and using it. Thank you so much!

if you are getting a relion meter, i would get either the confirm or the micro. they require one of the smallest blood samples and require no pre-use coding.

the ultima is their older model. it is bigger physically, takes more blood, and you have to code it to match each batch of test strips

I've used both the Relion Contour and the Relion Ultima. I have been very pleased with the contour but I wouldn't recommend the Ultima to anyone.

Contour -
require very little blood
the strips are cheap
strips draw blood quickly
Meter comfortable in my hand altho' a little wide

Ultima
strips expensive
strips draw very slowly
takes a large amount of blood
Meter is comfortable in my hand

I know you'll get more feedback! This is all just MY opinion from MY experience....

The Ultima is the exact same meter as Abbott's Precision meter. I got that directly from Abbott Labs. It is a much olderr model, runs a little higher and does require more blood. I have both the Precision and the Relion Confirm and find the Relion Confirm much easier to use on a kitty with accurate results. I have checked it against 3 other meters and it does a good job with reliability.

I have used both the Ultima and Confirm and been satisfied with both. For someone new to testing, I would recommend the Confirm. It takes less blood to test.
