My caliper finally arrived (from Harbor Freight, US), so yesterday I spent the afternoon trying to get it set properly for my syringes. I am using the BD Rodozu (low dose) 3/10mL 29G 12.7mm (1/2") U-100 syringes (no half-unit markings). These are the only BD syringes available here, and I get them from my vet. I checked a bunch of needles, and the average is 1.3mm (caliper reading) per 1u (syringe reading).

My problem is that the BD has a plastic ring that juts out from the syringe barrel, and the caliper jaws won't fit under this ring, so I can't get the caliper jaws close enough to the barrel to accurately measure. How do other people who use BD syringes and calipers deal with this problem?

I don't know.

Maybe you could take a piece of thin cardboard, mark the whole units, then split the distance for half units, and use that as a reference guide.

What I did is put the caliper around that piece that sticks out and zeroed it there, then the measurement is from that point out
