I am such an idiot!
I am also going to kill my DD whose interference is the reason the cat got one unit more insulin than he should!!!

We started a sliding scale recently and have been adjusting the doses based on response. Sue on the ProZinc forum has been a great help :)
Here is the sliding scale as of today:
High Pink = 3.25u
Low Pink = 3u
High Yellow = was 3u but dropped a 272-116 so my plan was for 2.75u
Low Yellow = still to be determined

Tonight's pmps was 297 so he was to get 2.75u. An untimely interruption while I was drawing up the insulin resulted in Tucker getting 3.75 units.

Looking back I can guess that he is going to drop pretty low and bounce horribly for the amps. I am so not happy right now
We were finally getting good numbers and having unshootable pmps's! I know his numbers will settle down but feel sick that my error could hurt him.

What should I do???

crossposting on prozinc forum, but no one replies but Sue!

It is hard to tell. Your 10/5 PM is the one recent on where he went low(92@+3 from PS of 252 when you gave 3 1/2 units. However, 10/4 was 359@+3 from PS of 304 from 3 1/2 units.
I would get a + 3 and see what is happening. You may have to get more BGs depending upon what you get.

I agree a start 2-3 hours after the shot to see how the cycle is looking. If he drops quite a bit right away, you'll know the cycle is likely to be "active" and that he might drop lower than usual. Even if he dosn't drop right away, I'd plan to get a few tests in, especially near the nadir. Sometimes a higher dose can mean a longer than usual cycle with a later nadir.

He will be fine, Jen. Even if he drops lower than usual, it may not be too low. And if he does get down to 50s, then you can steer the numbers with food. (If you don't have any gravy foods, I would go out and get some.) You can use just the gravy to bring the levels up.

Be prepared:
Have ready high carb gravy food, Karo or other syrup, oral syringe, a printout of How To Handle A Hypo, and instructions/map of nearest 24 hour emergency vet.

At least you didn't give 10 units instead of 1 unit because you couldn't read a different manufacturers syringe and have no clue about conservation of volume ... as my housemate did. That cost me a couple grand at MedVet in Worthington, Ohio!

Interesting number. Definitely seems safe for now. Can you get a nadir, just in case?
