HELP Tipper is 593

Tested Tipper before her 5am shot and her reading is 593. Her curve at the vets was not great all high 300 and a 414 Took her home with increased Lantus dose of 2 units up from 1.5 Any suggestionsof help

Do you have any other numbers so we might see a pattern? It sounds like you are hometesting. Are you also testing for ketones? ketones

Can you check her again a couple of hours after the shot so we can see what effect the insulin has?

Don't worry about that number - you're still in the early stages of treatment. Just remember, as Sue mentioned, to watch for ketones.

You might want to set up a spreadsheet to keep track of Tippers BG readings and post the link in your signature so others can see it and give you suggestions.

Also, if you go to the Lantus forum in the Insulin Support Groups, there is a lot of reading material there regarding Lantus, including the Lantus Protocol and insulin shed information.
Read all the sticky's there. They are very informative.

When you change the dose, it sometimes takes a few days before you see if the change is helping or not.
Sometimes you will see crazy numbers the 1st day or so.

In the beginning of his treatment with PZI and then Lantus insulin, Jake's numbers were much higher than 593 many, many times. So it is not unusual. But please keep checking for ketones. Jake developed DKA, and I almost lost him. The good news is that he has been in remission now for 8-1/2 months and is the healthiest he has been in years. God willing, he will be 19 May 1st.
