Hi all,

My cat Wilson has been struggling the past few days and ketones have been fine. We took him to the vet because he stopped eating and drinking and the vet has told us he's in stage 3 kidney failure and recommended euthanising.

I don't want him to be in pain and rehydrating him doesn't seem to be helping, but I don't understand how his blood tests a month ago were fine (despite high blood glucose) and now he's so sick he needs to be put down.

I don't want to keep him alive for my sake in pain, but I'm just so surprised I just need some advice for the questions I should be asking or if I should be just letting him go?

I'm lost so anything you can do would be appreciated

If you could put the last and earlier large results in the labs section of your spreadsheet, people with experience reading lab results can look at them.

In the meantime, some reading.

This site is overwhelming at first. Just read a bit at a time. A number of people here have managed diabetes and kidneys.
Tagging @Wendy&Neko since Wilson is a high dose cat.

Any chance Wilson was dehydrated when he had his blood test? That will make the kidney values much worse. His blood sugar numbers are still really high, which will be dehydrating. How are you managing his insulin dose? How much fluids is he getting, and how often? I would try to get some ondansetron to help with nausea - it could be preventing him from eating. What food are you feeding him now?

Ditto what was suggested about letting us take a look at the blood work. Any was a urinalysis done too?

Neko got to stage 3/4 kidney disease and we managed the symptoms and supported her as needed. Which meant adding potassium to her food and a phosphorus binder to reduce phosphorus. And antinausea meds. She had a few other things going on at that time, heart disease and small cell lymphoma too, so quite the list of meds. She was also a cat that needed a higher dose, until we treated her secondary condition (acromegaly) that caused the need for a higher dose.
