I have a bg tester, but have not started yet (diagnosed last week). I know I should be, but I am scared to be honest.
My question is, Louie only ate maybe a quarter of his food (he is a pig, so odd for him) and I do not know whether to give him his insulin or not (due like right now). Should I test him first, just give his normal insulin shot/amount, etc. Help!

Without knowing more about your kitty, it's really hard to give much in the way of helpful advice

What insulin are you using? How much?

I don't know a lot about using Novolin since it's not really a good insulin for cats, but I do know that with that insulin, it's important that he does eat a pretty normal amount

Might hold the shot until you can get some more food into him ....but then you have to remember to change his next shot time so you're not giving them too close together

You might be able to use a syringe to prick his ear to test.

I don't know much about Novolin. I do know that Chris is right - Novolin does not last long enough in most cats, and it is know for hitting hard so the bg drops fast.

You might want to edit the title of your post and add that that you are using Novolin. (go to your original post in this thread and look for "Thread Tools" on the right. Click on that and find edit title.)

Novoline is the trade name of a family of insulins made by Noro Nordisk. The family includes, R, combinations of R and N/NPH. and only N/NPH. N/NPH can be used by cats but only lasts 8-10 hours. R only lasts 4-6 hours.
I do not think you mean two mils of insulin. 2 ml would kill a cat and likely a human too. Insulin is dosed in units and in one ml of the insulin there is 100 units.
Without testing I would only give one unit
