Thanks to DCIN, Louie received his new monitor & test strips & insulin yesterday! Louie's insulin was expired, and so I was thrilled to get him some fresh Lantus~
I used the new Bayer monitor last night and got a PMPS reading of 478~ was kind of freaked out about it, but thought it must be inaccurate, because Louie has not had those high numbers since the beginning of his treatment~ So this morning for his AMPS I used both the new Bayer monitor and the FreeStyle Lite we had been using and got very different readings~ Bayer: 491 and FreeStyle: 266 (more in line with what I expected).
I'm wondering if there is something I need to adjust on this Bayer monitor that I don't know about~ any suggestions?
By the way, Louie is doing pretty well, but we have a ways to go before he is regulated. He is still hungry all the time!
I have not posted the high readings, since I don't think they reflect accurate BG levels for Louie.
I'm working all day today, but tomorrow will curve test~ hoping to solve this problem~
thanks!

Hi, Tracy and Louie ~

This morning, I posted this on the Feline Health board, Tracy, giving some links to discussions about the Freestyle Lite meter testing low. I don't know if that is the case with your Freestyle Lite or not, because some members here aren't having any problems with their meters. Just wanted to call this to your attention though.

Is this the Bayer Breeze 2? I'm using the same one....so I would definitely be interested in knowing if there are any discrepancies! I haven't been testing for long at all, so I wouldn't be able to tell you if I noticed any differences...

Tracy,

I imagine you have the same Bayer Contour as I do for Musette. I would actually trust the readings on the Bayer as those high numbers would explain a lot about why he is still ravenous for food. Especially in light of other members having problems with their Free-style lites reading too low. One idea would be to test yourself with both meters and compare those readings.

Wow! that could be right Mel~ oh dear~ Louie has been so unusually hungry~ I thought by now he would be regulated~ I'm at work right now, but will run home to test him this evening and give him his shot. Tomorrow will be a curve test day. But for now if I trust the reading I got for last nights' PMPS @ 497, and this mornings AMPS of 478......any recommendations for his dosage this evening?
thanks!
Tracy

correction on BG levels~

correction about those BG levels (I'm away from home now, so I don't have his chart with me)
last night PMPS 491 this morning AMPS 478

I thank everyone for the input on the Freestyle lite monitor.....its so helpful to know about this, but worrisome that I did not know this sooner. Louie really has not had any opportunities to get into high carb food that I know of~ so this means his BG levels have been way higher than I thought!
oh dear!
