I made some hot tea with low-fat (not skim) milk, and left it on the coffee table for a moment while I made a phone call in another room. When I returned, I saw my cat drinking the tea! She drank enough that I noticed the level of the tea was lower than when I left.

Is this a disaster? Is she going to be okay or do I need to do something?

Thanks so much!

Hello Savo

I couldn't find this in your previous posts - what is your cat's name, please? I also saw you have only recently adopter her/him, and are having a bit of trouble giving the shots. Are you having better luck? Which insulin are you using? What are you feeding? Could you maybe set up an FDMB Profile, so we can have a bit more info on your cat? Here are the instructions on how to set up your profile.

About that tiny bit of milk/tea your cat drank: Everything should be fine. Some cats tolerate dairy very well, and hopefully yours is one of them. Soy is bad for cats, so it's best not to leave soy milk where they can get at it, but a lot of cats (3 of our 4, for instance) quite like dairy (milk, yoghurt, cream) and we let them have small amount as treats now and then. The cats who cannot tolerate dairy can develop diarrhoea if they ingest milk/yoghurt etc. But again, with such a tiny amount as lapping up a bit of tea, your cat will most likely be perfecty fine. If your tea was caffeinated, you should keep an eye on your cat just in case - caffeine *can* cause problems (because in significant quantities it is toxic to cats).

Remember your cat will probably have drunk very little, maybe a couple of tablespoons from the sound of your story.

So, try to relax, keep an eye on your cat, and in the meantime maybe have a look at this website listing which things are toxic and/or dangerous to pets.

Hugs
Jane
