Help. Monkey is peeing on my bed.

First of all, Monkey is getting better and better. He starts to play with toys for a short period of time. His neuropathy seems to be alleviated because now he stands like other cat to eat.

The problem is, in the past two weeks, Monkey pee on my blanket, pillow, carpet and cloth. Luckily his urine smell fine. I wonder if it is UTI, but it does not seem like it. Monkey often come to my room and look at me and meow, like he is asking for assistance. Then I bring him to the cat sand. Before peeing, he sometimes bite the cat sand. (I really worry about that, since the sand are not natural products.).Then he pee in a large volume. His urine jet looks smooth and with considerable velocity. Sometime he can pee 10 second to 60 seconds. So the volume of his pee is often huge. After that he did not cover this pee with sand (while other cats do). He pee 2 to 3 times per day. This happen for so many times. So i need to look for his meow and bring him to the cat sand.

Although he has neuropathy, it does not look like he is too lazy to go to cat sand. Since going to my bed require the same effort.

The reason I can think of is:
1. I have 4 cats, but only 2 litter box, he does not like that.
2. There is a noisy washing machine, here is the link of a video of my place. I know that many animal perceive lower pitch sounds as a sign of danger. And the sound of washing machine is loud and unpleasant in my opinion as a human
3. He has UTI. I am going to take him to the vet within a week for body check.
4. He prefers warm, soft and clean space to pee.

The UTI will definitely cause cats to pee outside of the litterbox, especially if they are painful. Monkey may be associating the litterbox with the pain. Also, you should have at least one litterbox for each cat in the household. At the minimum, you should have 4 boxes, though it is better to have at least one more than you need. Place them in different places if possible.

Peter I think maybe its time Monkey has an xray. My friend had a kitty, a beloved kitty, who was very sick and started eating her own litter. My friend never knew and thought the litter on her nose was from sniffing her litter to cover up her droppings. In fact her kitty had been eating it! I know you watch Monkey closely so I think you would witness this if Monkey was doing it. My friends kitty had many issues and the vet told her she could have been eating her litter to comfort pain. Ever since my friend has been beating herself up for not knowing. I wouldnt even suggest this if I hadnt known what my friend has gone through.
I agree with Lisa he certainly could have a UTI.

Oh and yeah that washing machine?It would chase me out of the house!

Did your friend stop the cat from eating sand? Whats the consequence of it. Just ordered a urine collection kit to let the vet examinate

Thats just it Peter. My friend didnt know. She thought the litter stuck to her kitties nose was just from sniffing it.
Now to be honest her cat had other issues. She was a sick kitty. But after an xray it revealed her kitty was eating the litter. Her kitty passed away but the vet said, it could have been one of the other issues, that caused her passing.

I have read twice in different posts, that Monkey was "biting" his litter. Thats the ONLY reason I approached this subject. I'm not trying to scary you, but only to make you aware. sigh I hate even bringing it up but feel I would regret not doing so if this was the same case with Monkey. (I've grown quite fond of your little guy)
I think just watch Monkey closely and make sure he isnt eating the litter. Its odd I know but this DOES happen.

I am ordering a cat litter sand made of plants and grains, it stated that "Natural digestible, harmless to cat if they eat it" I am going to add a new litter box only for Monkey.

I can feel your love for Monkey. It is fortunate Monkey and PenPen are recovering in an amazing speed. Because of their disease, I give a lot more importance in cat welfare in my home. I brought at lot of toys, fountain, scratch boards, planning to improve their littering experience, buying cat grass etc. (It is a pity that Hong Kong has the least average living area in the world, so I cannot offer a garden for them, and not even one litter box per cat)

If Monkey still has an extended abdomen, (Ascites) it very much concerns me. An ultrasound would be a good way to diagnose any other disease or illness. They are affordable & could give you an answer. The reason I say this is because that alone is very serious. You do such a great job in caring for these kits & bless you for it! I’m glad you’re getting a urinalysis done. Sending healing vibes your way...

Hi Peter,

I agree with everyone you need to rule out the UTI first. It’s going to be a process of elimination with the peeing. You could try another box in a different location. But with Minnie and her neuropathy, this happened all the time. And even what you’re describing, she would look at me and meow and after it happened a few times I started to get that she was asking for help to pee so I’d pick her up and take her outside to the spot she likes peeing in. She also would not cover the pee or the poop. I think that again the weakness of the muscles and nerves due to the neuropathy made it hard to stand there doing that afterwards. But what’s throwing me off is that you said he went on your bed and like you said it takes some effort to get there too. Is your bed high and he’s able to jump on it? Id check the UTI, try another box in different location and see if it still happens. I had to have additional disposable boxes all over the place for Minnie. I’d also advise you to get pee pads. I had them on the spots she was peeing at the most too, even on my bed and then threw an old blanket on top of the pads for easy clean up. I also want you to know if it’s the neuropathy, this is all temporary. Minnie now pees in the box and covers it all up. I have removed all the additional ones and haven’t had to use a pee pad in months.
Monkey is lucky to have you!!!

last thing, is monkey on b12 methyl for the neuropathy? It really really helps!

Peter do NOT let him eat the litter. I dont know what kind you have, but I just wouldnt let him. If he insists on eating it, I would definitely take him to the vet, and tell the vet hes been doing that. I know this all gets overwhelming AND expensive. (I couldnt afford to take my kitty to the vet healthy or not.)
Mainly try to keep an eye on him.

A non-clumping clay litter is often used for kittens, that have not learned that kitty litter is something they should not eat.
Only after the kittens have stopped eating the litter, is it a good time to switch them to a clumping litter.

I realize that Monkey is not a kitten. But wanted you to know about this other litter option.

Peter, can you call email or text the vet? Here in the us we can and the vet may tell you to come in sooner given all the symptoms he’s having now. Just a thought!

Anemia as well as vitamin and mineral deficiencies can sometimes cause a cat to eat litter. Maybe the vet can run some bloodwork to check.

I wouldn’t let a cat eat litter. Clumping litter can cause intestinal blockages and other serious problems.

Yes now I am trying to prohibit him from eating litter. One thing is strange that when he want to pee, he ask me for help. But when he wants to poop (espeically after eating), he just go to the cat sand by his own

Yes, Monkey is taking B12 methyl for nearly a week, hope it helps. I notice him stepping on his own pee with his hind leg after peeing. My bed is not very high but I think it takes some effort for him to jump. Yes I am trying another box position. I think if I just take away my blanket, then he will stop peeing.

Today is Hong Kong public holiday and i am hesitating about taking him to for emergency service The vet that take cares of Monkey is not on duty. And Bloodwork check, x ray, ultrasound may not be available

The vet said 2 weeks ago that Monkey may have slight iron deficiency. But he said this may not be a big problem so he did not prescript supplement.

Yes that’s neuropathy. Minnie would also step on the pee and get both back paws wet and sometimes there was so much pee it would go under ler legs and she get wet that way too. There was a lot of washing, cleaning and doing laundry every day back then for me. If it continues, try the pee pads. I had them over and under every spot she may accidentally pee on and it saved my life

We have tried to be environmentally friendly with all kinds of litter but after a cat gets sick from eating it you'll do whatever it takes to make it stop. I know being in Hong Kong means you don't have as much room as we do, houses here are too big already, but if you need another litter box even temporarily go ahead and do it.

Can I also say, and please don’t be upset but I feel have to just bring it up at this point, you may want to consider finding another vet. Are there other options that friends can refer you to? I feel like your vet had been dropping the ball a lot and we want Monkey to have good sound veterinary care

it sounds like the perfect time to try someone new. Can you ask for a vet referral on social media? We have an app here called Nextdoor that is based on your zip code and it’s a great resource for referrals from vets to plumbers. Anything like that in Japan?

Yes. I will try to find a new one. I think the hardest part is find a vet that is ethical enough to not overcharged in Hong Kong. Btw, Hong Kong is a city in China.
