My fosters are going to be spayed Monday so I bought Yesterday's News Litter. I just put some out and these crazy kittens started eating it. What can I use while they recover? They both like to chew on Kleenex, paper, and even my bedspread. I've been feeding them Primal raw lately, enough for a 10 pound cat with a little chicken added. Could they not be getting enough food? They both are 6 pounds and are about 26 weeks.

Yikes! That's worse than Neko eating corn litter. Have you tried pine pellets? One of our local kitten rescue groups suggests them for kittens. Bonus, they are cheap. Sending :bighug:vines for the sprays tomorrow.

They are crazy! I've been using clay which they don't eat. I thought maybe I'm starving them so I just fed them more food. Tge ff and wellness cause Mocha to gave loose stool so I had switched to Primal. I just gave them each 1/2 can ff. Thanks, I'll try pine next. Good thing I started early. Mocha was licking the wood on the cat tree today too so I worry she might think the pine is food too. I just gave them the right to be loose in the den so the tree is new. When they escaped into the living room she was climbing the wood on my doors.

Clumping clay is not good, especially if they ingest it. Kittens do seem to have endless appetites.

You certainly have your hands full with your kittens, lol!:joyful:
I don't know whether or not they would eat it, I use Okocat Natural Wood clumping litter, it's kind of like random-sized, small, irregular rough pellets. I have a cat with pica and she doesn't eat it, but that doesn't mean your kittens won't.
Prayers and vines for their spays on Monday!:bighug:

The clay they don't eat. Go figure why paper tastes good. Maybe I should have gotten it with a fragrance.

I had two kittens at the same time... Omg double trouble! They were into EVERYTHING. Climbing curtains, chewing everything, knocked over a vase and broke it as well as many houseplants. Pains in the ass. Lol. They are much easier now that they are almost two, although the one still chews on anything plastic and tries to eat the shower curtain.

They are probably just trying to taste everything. Or maybe teething.

Update. Thought I had a good idea. I scooped a regular ball out of tge box and put it in the Yesterday's News. They immediately took out pieces if clean litter. I'll buy crystals tomorrow I guess.

Be thankful it wasn't a dog swallowing a watch battery. So to state the obvious, do what you have to do. I have an unhealthy fear of Noah, who gets litter caught between his pads, swallowing something meant to absorb moisture. Yikes, we can't spend a few thousand having him opened up for that and he wouldn't survive the surgery anyway. I wonder if there's something food wise, a spice or something repulsive to cats that you could sprinkle on litter? We changed from supermarket litter to Purina when we had 9 cats and it actually turned out to be cheaper, the pee clumps weren't as big as a ham. There's a few people here that love their litter box rubber mats that clean their feet. The fun never ends does it?

I hear you! By the time Max was stepping in the litter it was really hard to clean but he wasn't grooming so ingesting wasn't an issue so I feel for you there. I switched from Scoop Away to Dr. Elsey's which I think I like better long term but it was cheap from Chewy.com and now I'm not able to feed canned food so won't be buying from them any more. I'll try shredded newspaper but I think they will want to play with it. Crystals might be the answer IF they will use it. I think if there were something repulsive to spray on it tgey wouldn't want to get near it but I could be wrong. To be continued......

Not sure if crystals can be eaten safely. The one nice thing about the pine pellets is that they are larger and don't cling to the fur.

I'm waiting until I get advice from the vet. I think they will okay with the pine lime tgey do the pieces tgey pull out of the bathroom throw rug. I'm going to shred newspaper next. Thanks.

I'm sorry to hear about this behavior. It is almost LOL, but also serious. Others gave you some good advice. Don't we get one or two pictures of the cuties?

My vet said to just use the regular litter if they won't be compliant. Tge shredded newspaper led to one peeing on the carpet. I just put out two with regular litter and one with pine. Here tfey are.

I'm keeping them. I started by fostering because I wasn't sure I was ready so close to losing my sugar baby. I also didn't want to spay at two pounds. Then the day I picked them up and brought them home I discovered trey were sick with upper respiratory infections. They are full of personality and quite a challenge but I'm hooked.
