Hi. Brand new to this. Willie just diagnosed with lymphoma. While he was in the hospital for 3 days, his BG was not it’s best.
Brought him home last night. (3.5hr car ride) Not interested in eating. BG around 500. Held off on insulin, per ER Docs. But later gave .05 per my vet. Not much change in numbers
Today, not eating. BG still around 500 (Libre Freestyle)
Up to 710 tonight! Gave 2 units at 4:06, still rising & too high for actually # from Alpha Trak or Libre. Inclined to give another unit.
Prior to becoming anemic & cancer diagnose, 4iu 2x day.
Wondering if anyone else has had such high BG & what you have done about it. thanks

Hi and welcome Christine and Willie,
I would not give another unit of insulin now that you have given the dose and are part way through the cycle.
I am concerned he is not eating though.
I would try and feed him what ever he will eat as cats must eat.
If I were you I would go to the pharmacy or Walmart and buy a bottle of Ketostix and test his urine for ketones. It is a simple test. Just collect a urine from Willie and dip the test strip in the urine and read it against the colours on the side of the bottle exactly 15 seconds later. Anything above a trace needs vet attention..

Is he lethargic?
Is he drinking water?
How long has he been a diabetic and what insulin are you using?
Have you been home testing the blood glucose levels or was the vet doing periodic tests?

Oh I am so sorry for Willie haven gotten lymphoma cancer.. My non-diabetic Gustav got both the very difficult Multiple Myeloma cancer and then also lymphoma cancer.
I don't know what I would have done if it was diabetic Simba who would have gotten it, with how perhaps the cancers changes the diabetes. However we have very good Internal Medicine Specialists we turn to that does both cancer and diabetes, and I would have turned to them.

What type of insulin are you using?

How long since he's last eaten? You need to get food into him. Do you have any anti nausea medication from the vet?

My girl got small cell lymphoma, which is fairly treatable. It did not impact her blood sugars. She did throughout her life have some ugly high numbers, but for different reasons. Initially because her dose was too low, then because she got into numbers lower than she was used to, at other times because of issues with her heart.
