Hi everybody!

Do you have any advice about what could I prepare at home for my cat?

He's having Royal Canin Diabetic Feline, which is the lowest carb food I can find in my country. But it's a dry food and several people had already told me that it is 23% carbs, which is too much for a diabetic cat and suggested a low carb wet food diet.

The thing is, that there's no low carb wet food in my country, believe it or not, it just doesn't exist. It not even is imported from abroad, nothing. You can only find a few that some people bring from abroad when they travel, but they sell it at a incredible crazy high price (almost 10 dollars a can or a pouch).

I'm decided to prepare my cat his own low carb wet food if necessary, so any suggestion about what it should include and what shouldn't?

Thanks a lot!! :)

Hi Ceci,

I think Silvina @Silvina is in Argentina also, and she may be able to give you some more suggestions about what is available (although I understand the canned options are very limited....)
(I've tagged her for you, but if you don't hear from her soon you could consider sending her a private message. She may get an email notification about that.)

There are some people here who make homemade food for their cats. It's not necessarily difficult (but you'll need a grinder if you're using whole carcasses), but it's important to get the balance of nutrients right.
Some people use the recipe and method from the catinfo.org website here:
http://catinfo.org/?link=makingcatfood

It's also possible to buy meat that is already minced/chopped and then add a proprietary supplement mix to the meat to make it a complete food. (But I don't know if such a supplement mix is available in Argentina...)

I'm tagging Bron @Bron and Sheba , who is in Australia and makes her own cat food. She may have some suggestions for you.
It might also be worth your doing a 'search' of the forum for 'homemade cat food' or similar phrases. The subject does crop up from time to time. :)

Hola Ceci!!!

Hey Ceci!!!

I don't know if im allowed to write in Spanish but I will do is since Im in a rush.

HAHAH you can use google translator but may be it's kind of Argentinan style of Spanish.

Hi Ceci,
It is not hard to make home made food for cats. It is just a matter of being organised.
I buy human grade meat for Sheba. I give her raw kangaroo and cooked chicken. Also chicken hearts and some liver.
I do not use a grinder but cut up the meat myself into small pieces.....not hard at all. Instead of bones I give a calcium supplement. Also you will need to give a few other supplements to make it a complete meal. It is just a matter of getting organised. You may be able to buy the supplements in one package there. We can't buy them in one package inAustralia so I make up my own.
I have been feeding Sheba home made food for a couple of years and I would not go back to canned food.

Not sure if Silvina has been able to help you.......I can't read Spanish! But if you want more detailed information, just tag me and I will give you the details.

Thank you @Bron and Sheba !!!
I want to make Owen's food too :)
Silvina has already gave me information about that, even some recipes.
Since we live in the same country (where you cannot find a lot of supplies like they do on the USA for example), I'm contacting her about ingredients (vitamins and supplements).
Thanks a lot!! :)
So glad Silvina can help you. I am sure you will be very happy with the home prepared diet. If I can help in any way just tag me.
