Hi

Welcome to the forum. I am new to the forum too and so can't give any advice on dosing but I will say the increases in lantus seem to go up quickly (the advice On the tight regulation protocol is to increase in small doses or 0.25 or 0.5 in case you miss the optimum dose) and you seemed to be getting better numbers on a lower dose. Other more experienced members will be able to advise.

Could you let us know a little bit more about Blinky- how old, what food you are giving, whether you testing for ketones using a urine test strip, does she have any other underlying issues. I see the spreadsheet mentions her feeling unwell. Does she have trouble eating?

It's great that you are testing blood glucose. I would make sure you are testing for ketones.

Best wishes

Sarah

Okay first things first, the dose has been raised by way too much each time it was raised, and secondly there is way too much of a gap between when Blinky was tested from one time to the next, in days not the number of hours between tests on a particular day.

Now with that said, we need a little further information from you in order for us to better help you help Blinky

What is his current diet? Food can play a huge role in managing this disease as well as the right insulin dose. I also use Levemir for my one girl still insulin dependent as well as for the one that is now off insulin. It is the demeanor change that you noted on your spreadsheet that has me the most concerned, because that isn't typical with a Levemir cat or for that matter any diabetic cat when they are well regulated.

The problem is too much insulin and not enough can look exactly the same if you aren't home testing daily to catch the lows that too much insulin can cause, which then triggers the liver to go into self protect mode and jumps them right back up into high numbers again and it becomes a vicious cycle.

My Cassanova was on 11u of Levemir and only having curves run at the vet's by his previous owners, when I adopted him I could have described him very much like you did your Blinky. Very poor clinical signs, lousy coat condition, lethargic etc. Switched his diet to a low carb canned wet food and started testing him at home, 8 months later he is insulin free and looking smashing.

Hi ;

I have been working with Dr. Pierson and have upped the dosage on her advice with no response . Her next suggested step would be to have
the IGF- 1 testing done . I live in Canada and the test is not done here which means many dollars and a 5- 10 wait for the results .
She has been eating Purina DM for 6 months now .

Hi Again ;

She is ten years old and is eating the same amount since getting sicker but I am continuously presenting the food to her.
She was tested for ketones ten days ago and was clear even though I appreciate that can change at any time .

Hi ;

I have just returned from the vet and had Blinky euthanised . Thank you .
