My kitty has been on a steady diet of free feeding Dr elsey clean protien chicken kibble and 1/2 can fancy feast pate before his shots. His numbers are usually high ( 14 -19 ) but the last two days he won't eat his wet food but has kept up with the kibble and his numbers have been way better (6.2 last night and 7.8 this morning ). Hes been energetic and playful since he cut out wet food.

I've tried him on so many pates and his numbers are always high. Any insight?

Insulin Novolin ( i know not good, getting it switched )1 unit twice a day

Some cats' systems seem to 'prefer' a particular level of carbs and numbers can show improvement if one hits the 'goldilocks' range for a particular kitty. Some do better on a very low, even ultra-low, level of carbs but others may run in a better range with carbs a bit higher (but still under 10%).

Assuming that the FF patés are the low carb ones, IIRC they fall in the 0-3% kcals from carbs range, so some could be considered ultra-low in carbs. IIRC the Dr. Elsey's LC kibble is >5% kcals from carbs. I can only speculate here, but maybe Loki might be one of those kitties that does better with a mid-range low carb food?

More speculation: the wee bit of extra carbs might be slowing the drops from the Novolin N? That could potentially even out cycles, reduce bouncing, etc.

Even more speculation: start of remission (can happen)?

Note that all of the above is pure conjecture - no data upon which to base any reasonable hypothesis.
