I haven't been here in a while. My Puckett has been doing well on 1 unit of compounded PZI 2x a day. Got a call today from our local compounding pharmacy saying that they will no longer be compounding PZI any longer. I'm not sure what my options will be given this situation. Any suggestions? Because of the holiday I haven't been able to talk to my vet yet.

You'll need to ask your vet, but you should still be able to get compounded PZI from a place in Texas. It's "BCP PZI", and as far as I know, they are still making it. You just need the vet to call them with a prescription, and then you call them, pay by phone, and they overnight it to you. There used to be another one, in Houston, called VPA, but they are not making it anymore either. BCP, I think, is the "biggest" place that makes compounded PZI.
Your other option would be trying to switch to Prozinc, which is almost the same.

Thanks Carl. I'll talk to my vet tomorrow and see what she suggests. Will give her the info on BCP PZI and the compounding pharmacy in TX. Not sure how the price will match up to what I've been paying (cost is an issue since I'm living on a fixed income).

Last year I paid about $60 for a 10ml vial, including shipping.

That's not bad at all. I've been paying $44 locally for the compounded PZI (2 mos worth). Granted it was nice to be able to pick it up locally but if I can keep Puckett on the same insulin I really want to given that he's doing so well on it. Thanks for the info. Am hoping to catch up with my vet tomorrow to talk to her about the change.
