My last posts on Annabelle were about her high PM BG readings. Now literally overnight they dropped drastically. Her PMPS last night on the SS was actually after her 4 unit shot. She wouldn't let us test her before her meal. We really wish we had-no idea we'd see such a drop from the night before. The test was done within 10 min. of her food and shot. So we were up until 1:00 am feeding after +3 and testing. This morn her AMPS was low enough for a 2 unit shot-unfortunately it was mostly a fur shot. All that being said, we'll test her preshot tonight. Is Annabelle going into remission? How much do we give?

Do you know how to link your previous post this this one? Just copy the URL , click on the paper clip and paste it. That helps. When was Anna diagnosed and when did you start lantus? How was the dose determined? What are you feeding her? Sorry for all the questions but I need to know to try and help.

A reduction is earned if she drops under 68 if you are feeding all wet food. If feeding any dry then under 90 qualifies. Do you know if you will follow SLGS or TR yet? If feeding any dry it's SLGS. Otherwise it's your choice. I also suggest you post daily on the lantus/ lev forum as more people will be helping you. I for one don't often look on the main forum.

So I see that you are concerned about reducing her dose. Lantus is dosed based upon tge lowest point in the cycle, the nadir. Anna was increased quickly. You nay have missed a good dose for her. Getting too much insulin can look like too little. We increase around here in .25 increments so that doesn't happen. I see you shot a much reduced dose today. That doesn't guarantee she won't drop low during this or tonight's cycles so I would check in an hour after the last test. I have a cat that needs to be fed small amounts often so what I feed him depends on his tests.

No, her doses are based upon her lowest point in the cycle, usually at +4-7. Last night she dropped to the 75 which is a good nadir. You would hold this dose until she drops under 68 on the pet meter you are using if following TR but reduce by .25 if you are following SLGS. Dosing is never based upon the am/pmbg although if newly diagnosed without data you might decide to give a one time lower dose if you can't monitor or don't have supplies.
