Is there any safe over the counter med I can give for constipation? Vet said pumpkin, but he vomited itl

I've never given Miralax, but I do believe you need to give extra water with it. Larry, can you please confirm?

When he tries to poop he pukes. When I got home from work he was distressed, vomited the tiny amount of pumpkin I gave him and puked in the litter box.

About an hour ago I gave him some bupoprenorphine. He is relaxed now.

I Couldn't find Miralax at the pharmacy. My Vet said I could give about 1 tsp Metamucil, but I was afraid it would plug the feeding tube. I just gave him 1/8 tsp. with 30 ml of water. If he holds it down, I will continue to give small amounts til he gets 1 tsp. Fingers crossed.

If he's vomiting when he tries to go to the bathroom, it makes me wonder if he could possibly be blocked? If that's the case, no amount of laxatives will work and might even make things worse. I would suggest you take him to the vet to get him checked out.

He's done this a few times. I am supposed to give him 180 ml of water a day. The last few days I have only given him abut 150 ml, so its my own fault. :YMSIGH: H

I gave him sub Q fluids before we had the feeding tube. I can give them again if I have to.

He pooped yesterday, so I am not too concerned..... yet.

um ... that might be part of the problem. Narcotics frequently slow the GI tract.

Plain psyllium powder, starting low with a pinch, helps hold the moisture in the feces as would pumpkin.

Vomiting suggests he may be blocked. Avoid pushing lots of fiber down at this point because if he is blocked, his GI tract could tear. He might need an enema.

That's progress!

Prevention from this point on. And discuss with your vet what should be done on a regular basis.

I just bought my miralax from amazon. It's great as it dissolves in food or water and has helped keep my remi regular for about two years.
