Hello,

I'm trying to find a high carb wet food for a friend's cat who's starting back on insulin after previously having seizures (reason is not confirmed but he did have low BG prior to one of them). He is allergic to chicken and possibly turkey.

From what I remember before my cat went into remission was that dry food wasn't good for hypos because it took too long to act, so I'm assuming that a high carb wet food with sources like peas, potatoes, berries, ect would probably take long to act too? All the gravy options I'm finding use chicken.

If anyone has any suggestions for a chicken and turkey free high carb food available in Canada, I'd massively appreciate it

Thanks a bunch :)

You can always add maple syrup or honey to his regular low carb food. Nature's Variety Limited Ingredient Duck or Rabbit are medium carb. First Mate Turkey is 20% carbs, their salmon is 14%. It has tons of potato in it and works fine for HC. My girl had allergies to wheat so I gave her some Weruva with potatoes for carbs, but it had chicken in it. Turkey might be fine where chicken is not. Canada Fresh Salmon and Duck look like they might be high carb - I haven't checked their ingredients list for other proteins.

Is it the chicken and turkey or something added to it during processing. I once worked in a cow factory, you don't want to know. Trust me.
In Canada turkeys are not given hormones or steroids but what they eat is a part of them forever. Both animal and human food is too processed. Although the words 'Organic', 'Sustainable' and 'Ethically harvested' have no legal meaning in Canada it's somewhere to start. You might find Native groups or hunters that take food ethically and straight out of nature the way it was intended.
If this is all new to you stay away from kibble no matter what the manager says. There's no kibble found in nature, eh!
