My boy Sammy has been on Remission for quite a bit now but he hasn't been gaining any weight back from when we were struggling with his diabetes.

He gets Sheba pate both surf and turf and gets 3 to sometimes 4 of those packets a day. And gets a good amount of freeze dried treats throughout the day.
pure bites- Beef Liver and sometimes chicken.
- Raw Rewards- Salmond and Chicken

He is currently about 7.8 pounds lasts time I weighed him. He is Male Norwegian Forest cat and he is a little under the underweight side. His hip bones stick out and you can kinda feel his spine when you pet him. He is 16 so maybe it might just be a old cat thing.

I just wanna add a few pounds to him is all and is wondering if there's any food or treats you'd recommend. Other than that he's been a healthy boy by what I know.
He pretty much acts like a kitten again.

Is he hungry or satisfied with what he eats?
I remember when Sheba was diagnosed the vet said to keep her lean and mean as that is best for diabetes.
I now try and keep all my cats lean. They don’t ask for extra food.

he will meow at his plate when he is hungry and I’ll usually feed him followed by some freeze dried treats on top. He usually eats all of it and is satisfied after that though he has his moments where his food isn’t enough for him and he’ll try to get to our food instead. I know they gotta stay on the Lean side. I want to get him to back to 9 pounds is all. If I were to guess how many calories he gets it's about 180 a day. ( had to calculate )

Every cat is different ….One of my cats who is 5.6kg eats around 120 to 130 grams of raw meat a day. If he eats more he puts on weight.
My other cat who is 4.1 kg needs to eat more around 150 grams of raw meat to maintain her weight.
I would offer another 50 calories a day and see if that helps.
Kitten food is higher in fat and might help put on the weight.
Here is a chart about how much to feed your cat.

Are you still testing him every so often to see he is in remission?

Thanks for the advice ill definitely check the chart out later. I'll try 50 cal more to and weigh him in a couple weeks to see if that helps him a bit. As for checkin for remission The last curve on him was on November 20 it was all in the green. I'm only down to 2 strips I need to buy more for this month and do another curve some time this month.

You don’t need to do a curve. Just a BG test every week or every month to see it is still in normal range

That is a bit on the light side for a Forest Cat! I have 2 NFCs and my male weight about 13 lbs. I'm pretty sure my female weights more than your guy and she's still in the kitten zone. I'm not great at gauging weight on my cats given how think their coats are. You're NFC may be a small guy. I would think about getting your kitty a check up just to be sure there's nothing going on medically (unless his weight has always been on the low side for the breed).

I'd think about bumping up the calories. Either a different low carb food that's higher in calories or just more food.

We have a genetically perfect cat who has stayed within a gram of nine pounds his entire life. Like the poster at the vet; too thin, too fat, morbidly obese, just right.
When he escaped for 88 days he lost 1/3 of his body weight so he was put on Royal Canin kitten food. In our case it was an urgent matter and we knew why he had lost the weight.
Has he had a full blood work-up recently? There are all kinds of things from parasites to dental pain that could make a cat lose weight or not eat enough.

Aww poor kitty I'm hope their doing better, Sammy tries to escape our house all the time cause He used to be a indoor outdoor cat. He hasn't been to the vet for a long while now. I think the last vet check was a glucose curve and a Uti check that came out negative. that was about June 10th. That was when we also decided to test at home cause they wanted 200 just to do testing. We need to schedule one eventually, right now i don't think my family has the time or money.. As for why Sammy had lost weight was from his diabetes. He used to have really high sugar levels and made him loose all his weight and muscle. He's doing good now and doesn't seem to be loosing or gaining weight for the past couple months he's been around 7 pounds for a bit now and also eats perfectly fine when I do feed him.

Andy has been back home for a long time now, thanks for that.
You won't have to spend lots of time and money on this but something isn't right. Diabetes itself shouldn't cause weight loss. For now get his teeth looked at and cleaned if needed, a basic blood panel for kidney and liver function, infections and thyroid function. Sammy is 16 which is just about the time things start to go wrong but it might be some minor thing. Is he up to date on vaccinations?
I had a cat that made it to 23 with all his teeth and only one trip to emergency. Don't expect this to be something awful.
