My second cat, a male grey tabby is losing a lot of weight since I have tried to not give out any dry food so Calley won't get into it. He is probably down by several pounds. I can feel his bones. He does not like the wet food and Calley just runs him away from all the food anyways.

She is still so voraciously hungry. I don't understand why when she is not drinking near as much and not peeing near as much. But then I think she is dehydrated.

Her BG numbers are lower but drive to eat everything in sight tells me that there is still something wrong and I don't know that insulin is going to fix it. All her bloodwork comes back normal....except for diabetes of course. THOUGH...her EOS number was elevated. The vet didn't seem at all concerned about it and said that it was nothing.

So now I have two cats that are in peril with their health. I am going to go back to the dry food for Buddy......he is healthy and needs to eat. I can't watch him waste away because he isn't getting food.

So frustrated with this whole mess.

Young Again 0 Carb (5% calories from carbohydrates as we calculate it) might be an option. It seems to be a dry food that doesn't spike the glucose in most cats. It is pricey, but they may eat less of it since it isn'r high carb. Internet orders only.

You might try baking the wet food to a crunch state, then gradually bake it a bit less each time.

Cat Info has a number of tips on transitioning, too.

I would give the Young Again Zero carb a try. It is still dry food, but not as hard as other dry foods and less carbs. My cats get this once a day to curb their dry food craving and get their crunchies. It is a bit pricey BUT with this food they eat less of it, and Young Again also guarantees it. If they dont like it send it back, also if you email them they will send you a free sample.

Also, question about Calley still being hungry all the time. Is she getting the right amount of calories per day? Canned food is less calories then dry and I know I didnt even think about that when I made the switch and kept wondering.....why are they so hungry??? lol

Has your vet checked for either thyroid or inflammatory bowel disease? My cat Mishcief was behaving similar to your cat and the vet determined she had inflammatory bowel disease. She prescribed budesonide for her and that completely turned things around. I have it compounded into a little pill that she will take with no problems.

Since she has been on it, she has gained 2 lbs, her coat looks great and she is now very playful. It is like I have a new cat.

LIsa, if you come back to this thread I'd be grateful if you might share how your vet went about diagnosing the IBD, please.

Hi Lisa.....all the bloodwork that has been done over the past six months, has all come back normal. No thyroid or any other issues....EXCEPT the diabetes. How do you diagnose IBD?

Calley eats maybe a can of food a day. I don't feed her too much because if I do she will vomit. So I figure the less the better, except for the fact that she is starving.

How do I get the vet to prescribe budesonide? Is it a pill and if so how often is it taken: daily? I want to do anything to get Calley feeling better. if she needs pain meds....then lets get them in her and feeling better. Her coat is terrible, she is dehydrated and her bg is all over the place. I don't think it is pancreatitis.....she hasn't ever lost her appetite. LOL

I don't remember if my vet ran any tests for the IBD or just started her on the budesonide. She was diagnosed over a year ago. But I started seeing an improvement within a couple weeks. My vet orders it from a componding pharmacy, Roadrunner Pharmacy and they are located in Phoenix, AZ. I pay about $60 for 100 pills. I did check around locally at the compounding pharmacies in my city and no one could come anywhere near that price. Most were over $100 for the same med.

Thanks Lisa & Larry. I strongly suspect that Saoirse may have IBD. It helps to have a steer on what to ask the vet about in terms of getting some sort of official Dx.
