Hi there
I have one insulin dependent diabetic kitty and two non diabetics and my mother accidentally injected the wrong cat. Do we need to panic yet? Will it effect him? I don't feed any of them kibble, should I give him some carbs or some syrup?! I'm out of town and want to make sure my mom doesn't kill the cats! Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated! Thank you!

I would think to give him high carb food throughout the evening. I would put a 911 out , someone will jump in and help out.

I would also recommend putting out a 911 here (edit your original post, click on the 911 icon then resubmit - apologies if you already know the drill). I'd also recommend contacting your vet for advice.

It would be helpful if you could post the type of insulin. the dose and how many hours have elapsed since the injection was given.

I'm very inexperienced as a caregiver to a diabetic cat. I'm really sorry that I can't help you more.

Are you home testing? Could your mom check the cat's BG? If she can, post the BG test result.

Does you mom have access to Karo syrup, honey, molasses, etc? Those will raise the glucose quickly. If there is high carb kibble available to give, drizzle some of the syup/honey/whatever over the kibble and start stoking up the glucose.

I'd get him to the vet. He may not be able to eat his way out of an insulin overdose.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I was panicking because in 2000km away and can't be there to hold vigil and test his blood every hour. My mother have him kibble and some agave nectar and corn syrup I believe.. He was a fan apparently.. She isn't comfortable testing his blood but she looked in on him throughout the night and he wasn't as vocal as usual but otherwise was normal and didn't seem lethargic in any way so I think everything is going to be fine. He's a pretty big boy so I'm hoping the dosage was minimal enough that with the extra sugar in his diet he was able to balance it. Thanks for the tips, I appreciate it!
