Hello everyone! I am so happy this group exists! I'm a long-time (almost life-long) animal rescuer, and my pets are my kids. I've dealt with a lot of medical issues over the years, and done a lot of hospice care, etc., so I feel pretty confident in my ability to provide a loving, safe home, and my husband and I decided to adopt a 12 year old diabetic cat about two weeks ago. She's just dreamy, but we're definitely deep in the learning curve with this whole thing, and I've relied so much on things I've read in here already, I figured I may as well just join! I'm in the Bellingham, WA, USA area, and am new to town, too, so also learning our new vet...lots and lots of learning ahead! Anyway, that's me! :D

So nice to see people adopting diabetic cats. I was at the shelter this morning--as, I'm looking to add another kitty. They had about 5 cats there with diabetes--the adoption fee for those ones were waived! My heart just melted.

Is the she currently on insulin? I would suggest going to the direct message board for the insulin you will be using. There are lots of great people in each, and they can specifically cater their advice to the insulin you are/will be using.

These are scientific facts. Diabetic kittehs:
- give 50% more leg lovin's
- purr 20% louder than non-diabetics
- spend 30% more time cuddling on laps

The learning curve is a bit steep. We are lucky. Diabetes is a very well understood condition, and easy to treat once you get the knowledge. We'll be glad to help!
